picking a pup

I am looking for a COMPANION golden only and will never be breeding him. I think I might have narrowed it down to two different pups. As far as genetics, one is all CLEAR and the other is a CARRIER of ich 2.

I seem to prefer the build and looks of the CARRIER pup. Like I said, being that he will never be bred, that should not play a factor in my choice of pups, correct?

Yes. Carriers carry one copy of a recessive gene-- if you were to breed him to another carrier, puppies would be affected. But, since he's not being bred, it doesn't matter. My older boy is an Ichthyosis carrier, he has zero issues and never will

Thanks for the info! I guess in addition to what I originally posted, I wanted to make sure a carrier is a carrier regardless if it’s ich 1 or ich 2

They're both recessive traits and yes- makes no difference. If he's a carrier he will not have the disease.
