Bumping up
I need advice on how to word some inquiries I'm making. I've connected with Cheryl from MagicGold Goldens and Edwina from Emberain Goldens, and Edwina has offered to forward me to people she's studding her boy Punch out to (AGCH MACH 5 Emberain Red Rum Punch SH MXS2 PDS MJG2 PJS MFC TQX T2B5 WCX CCA ADHF) "if things don't work out with Cheryl", who is breeding in the near future. However, I'm really interested in agility, flyball, and maybe rally + obedience; I'm not really interested in field trials at all (my friend's family breeds and trials with AKC vizslas, and it's just not very appealing to me besides the being-out-in-nature part).
I've heard a lot about how reputable breeders become your mentor and a resource for getting involved in the dog world, so would it be better for me to choose Emberain? Would it be rude of me to ask her to refer me to the breeders she mentioned? Then again, how involved are stud dogs' owners involved in their puppy owners' lives? Edwina herself won't be breeding any time soon.
OK I’ll definitely ask then! Can I ask what your involvement in your boys’ puppies looks like? Is it because of what Prism mentioned? It would not be rude.
The involvement of the stud dog owner varies widely. I'm very involved with many of my boy's offspring from many different litters, but some puppy owners have told me that that's not the norm.
You should ask the stud dog owner!
Sorry for all the questions in advance; what you said is all so new and exciting to me! Does the 1 Q for an OS mean a qualifier for an obedience skill (I tried googling but came up empty)? Did you get that from one of Punch’s titles? Do dogs get extra titles from the achievements of their offspring? It looks to me like Punch has one Q for OS, and another right on the brink. It takes 5. That puts you in a good position to get her help since if you achieve with your Punch kid it'd be #3 for him... SDO's are often not even aware of where the pups go, there is actually a thread right now on a breeder list on FB on this very thing, knowing where the pups are @ and touching base with the owners. Your relationship will initially be with the breeder of course but perhaps the SDO can help you evaluate the litter, if the breeder would welcome evals ? And perhaps she'd act as a mentor for you.?
Here is the point scale- it's the same as the VC program-https://grca.org/about-grca/grca-events-titles-and-awards-for-dogs/grca-awards/versatility-vc-and-versatility-excellent-vcx-awards/Sorry for all the questions in advance; what you said is all so new and exciting to me! Also, I’m sure this is the dumbest question ever, but if he has 1 Q now and I achieve with one of his puppies... why would he then have 3?
Just to confirm that I'm understanding you correctly:There is one offspring who has that, another w an open agility title (so next level will Q that dog) and then assume your own will be #3.
Ohhhh my bad, thank you for taking the time to explain all this to me! I think this all makes much more sense.Dog # 6 and #1 is the open agility- and it's not a total of points, has to be 7+ points in one title to make a Q dog..
#8 is the only Q now.
