In 6 weeks I get to pick up Bentley's 1/2 sister. Bentley will be 9 1/2 months at that point and hasn't slept in his crate since he was 4 months. That first couple months crate use was critical to get him potty trained. He still sleeps in our room, we just shut the door so he can't roam the house.

Does anyone have any experience trying to put one new puppy in a crate while the other older puppy is free to roam around?

Our GSD was 9 when we brought Tucker home and we had no problems. Tucker slept in the crate that we kept in our bedroom so that we could hear him if he woke up and had to go to the bathroom. We got lucky with him and he was a very good sleeper as a pup and would easily sleep for 6-7 hours straight. Tucker now sleeps outside of his crate for the most part. We're bringing a new Golden puppy home around Christmas and we plan to do the same thing with crating the new pup in our bedroom. Tucker usually sleeps in the bed with us and our GSD sleeps in many different places around the house. We don't anticipate any problems.

My four all sleep loose while the puppy stays in the crate and there is no problems. In fact one of my boys (Pawley) sleeps by the crate

So glad to hear all the suggestions! We are bringing home our 2nd golden in a couple of weeks. Maggie is 10 1/2 months old and she sleeps in our bedroom, sometimes on the floor and sometimes in our bed. Planning on putting the new pup in a crate in the bedroom also.
Any other suggestions? Thanks!
