OK guys I need some help. I found fleas and ticks on Molly (16wk Berner) and Penney (2yr golden) went to the vet and they gave me Capstar to give to each dog and stated that this would kill the adults within 2 hours. Well guess what they are not dead. So I gave them baths when I got home tonight but know I'm thinking I should have gotten some flea and tick shampoo. What do you recommend?

I did get the tick out of both dogs (by the way the thread about the index finger counter clock wise really works) little bugger came right out.

I also got some advantix from the vet that I'm going to put on tonight to.

I have never had fleas before, running for the hills. Oh, one more question how do you stop itching yourself????????????????????????

Do you have carpets in your house at all? Fleas and live in carpets and linens. There are some carpet powders that you can get to put down and then vacuum up, but I don't really know how effective they actually are. You'll also need to wash all of your sheets, blankets, towels, etc.

We started using Vectra 3D on our dogs this year and haven't had one flea or tick.

EWWWWW. I'm glad we don't have a big problem with those buggers. Sorry not much help, but I do feel for you.

I've never used Capstar, but I'm assuming since you got the Advantix from the vet that it is safe to use right after the Capstar??? Yes, you will need to treat your carpets and vaccuum real well any wood floors ( a flea and tick collar IN the vaccuum cleaner bag is a good idea). Also might want to put down some diatomaceous earth on the yards ... do NOT use that meant for swimming pools (it's toxic to dogs). You can read about it here..... www.dirtworks.net

Oh I like the flea and tick collar in the vaccuum idea that's great. thank you so much.
Do I need to use special shampoo also. And how often can you wash the fur kids after you use the advantix?

I think you are suppose to wait either 24 or 48 hours after applying, before you can bath them. Someone else may know for sure. Capstar has always worked for us, sorry it didn't for your dogs. Hope all flea's are gone soon!

Thanks for the advice about flea shampoo and advantix I will remember that. My daughter ran out and got the flea collar.

You guys are great thanks for all the info. All the little furkids are sleeping for the night. I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought only found 2 fleas and 1 tick on Penney and 5 fleas and 1 tick on Molly, hopefully we got all those little buggers.
