This is a really special day in our household. Chumlee is turning a whopping 18 years old today ! 🥰
He is the oldest dog I have ever had. It started me thinking about dogs I have met over my lifetime and thinking about which was the oldest dog I ever personally met.
I'll start:
The oldest dog I ever knew was my uncle's dog Colonel. He was a German Shepherd / Husky (3/4 GSD 1/4 Husky). I knew him throughout my young childhood until he passed at 19 years old.
Your turn: How old was the oldest dog you ever personally met and what breed was it?
(And if you have time, please stop by the Senior Forums and wish Chumlee a happy birthday!)
HUGE Happy Birthday wishes to Chumlee!! I know you will spoil the heck out of him and it will all be so well deserved! 💕
There was a Golden in my neighbourhood who was 16 or 17 when she died. I first met her when she was about 12 or 13, I think, and would bump into her every so often around the neighbourhood, and she went to the same water treadmill rehab clinic that we go to. She was a beloved star there.
My Shih Tzu, Nicky, lived to be seventeen. I have a funny photo of him somewhere in a sweater where he looks like a crotchety old man, but I can’t find it. He was the most stubborn and funniest dog I’ve ever owned. He kept us laughing a lot.
Huge happy birthday to Chumlee!
The oldest dog I ever personally knew was my Tiny, she was 16 years 9 months old when she passed. Mobile and swimming until the end.
Happy birthday to Chumlee!! 😊🥳 Wishing him nothing but the best and lots more adventures ahead!
The oldest dog I know personally was my husband's (or rather back then was my boyfriend's) Labrador. She walked herself, demanded that I pat her constantly 😂 - she passed away at the age of 15 years.
Happy Birthday Chumlee! That's just awesome! Scamp, the mix breed we got when I was 9 and Rusty, my first Golden I got for my 24th birthday both lived 14.5 years.
When I went to the MAI, I got to meet the breeder of Hallie’s Dam. She still has Hallie’s grandma who is sixteen years old, and I thought that was amazing. My Family member has a chihuahua who is 15-16 years old, and is the oldest dog I’ve personally spent time with.
When I was in elementary school I had a friend with a 20-year-old Jack Russell Terrier named Ransom the oldest golden I've known personally lived to 14 - happy 18th birthday Chumlee!
Happy Birthday, Chumlee!! And many mooore.....
The oldest dog I knew personally was my older daughter's Bernese Mountain Dog, Dusty. He was such a good boy-- sweet, lovable, smart, happy! He thought he was a lap dog Always up for a walk, no matter how slowly we were going. We ambled around the field, Dusty sniffing at every pine tree the day before he died. He was written up in a Berner magazine as the 7th oldest Bernese--he was was 13, but......Berner.
Happy Birthday Chumlee! I'm impressed! The oldest dog I have known was a dear friend's Labrador named Remi who lived to celebrate her 16th birthday. Remi was (maybe still is?) the most titled Labrador Retriever on record, multi MACH OTCH and every kind of title AKC, UKC, USDAA, NADAC, ASCA etc.
Here is Bit with Remi after earning their 2nd MACH
A neighbor had a beagle that was over 18 when it passed. Another neighbor had a German Shepard that he claimed lived to be 22 or 23. He got it at two years old and his wife was pregnant with their first at the time. His son had just turned 20 when I saw the dog.
Oldest dog - an 18 year old mixed breed my neighbors kept from an oops litter their beagle had.
Oldest golden - my aunt's 16 year old golden, who passed just a few months shy of 17. He was an Amish puppymill dog, but great temperament and shockingly healthy, just some arthritis at the end.
The oldest dog i knew personally was my grandparents German Shepard/Husky. He lived to be 20 years old. And he was still so healthy when he passed. Just his back legs went limp then 2 days later he was gone. My grandpa took his dog house and put it up by the field. Buddys favorite spot. The path we use to walk with him. Buddy was a outdoor dog, he hated going inside. He was forced to in the winter. Never ever had a coyote come close. He passed about 10 years ago. My grandpa since wont get another dog, and his health has declined. We cant speak of Buddy and he made sure to never cut down Buddys tree. Buddy and my sister grew up together. Its always sad though when you know they are going.
Not quite the oldest I've ever known, but this little girl is 13 1/2! We believe her to be at least part Brussells Griffon. The underbite is normal for the breed. You would never know she's so old by the way she acts.
DevWind's picture of her adorable mix reminded me of my father's dog! I can't believe I forgot to mention him.
Hi name was Jake and he lived to be 17 years and a few months. He was a Pekinese mix and had quite the underbite. People made comments about the underbite until my Dad started a "collection" in a peanut butter jar as a joke. The sign said "Braces for Jake". We have a picture of Jake as a 3 month old puppy and my DS who was about 3 years old. For Jake's 17th birthday we re-created the picture with my then 20 year old son. 💗
