Not Golden But A Sweet Giant

Hey GRF buddies I'm on my way to the new career. I'm working for a groomer while I'm using up some of my unused time at work before retiring.
They saved this guy "Neo" for me to work on, I've never heard of a Leonberger until yesterday no less see one. The big guy is 235 pounds, 10 years old, incontinent, kidneys are shutting down, but the sweetest dog I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Haven't been kissed like that lately.
Harley says hello to his friends on GRF.

Good for you and YOUR NEW CAREER!

I truly believe animals are much more of a pleasure to work with then alot of people. I really give you credit.

That LEONBERGER IS JUST GORGEOUS! YOU did a beautiful job.

Tell me how long you had to go to school to become a groomer.
I might look into this as a new career path, too-I just lost my job as an Administrative Asst. after 12 years on Sept. 16th.

I saw a Leonberger a few months ago. He was beautiful and HUGE!

Hi Karen
I posted in your thread about losing your job recently and I'm really sorry that happened. As for grooming......I am not a groomer by any stretch of the imagination however I am working with a very good groomer now and will be enrolling in school in January. Most groomers do not come from school Karen, some of the best come from working with a groomer that has the ability to teach. Call around to the groomers in your area and ask if they would like some help.
the school I will be attending offers a basic (100 hrs) and an advanced (300 hrs) but I still think hands on with a groomer would make your wish to work with animals a reality. I've never met a groomer that wanted to change professions :)
What a beautiful pup!! Glad you are enjoying your new career.
What a sweetheart of a dog! For all of us working stiffs- we will all just live vicariously thru your frequent posts and pictures (hint, hint!) of your new vocation.

Thanks for all the info you just gave me and I will check for your post.

Please keep sharing your experiences and pics and GOOD FOR YOU!!!
I love Leonbergers! He looks great, Jerry!
Wow he is huge! Congrats on your new job!
Yea Jerry! Wonderful pictures :)
One of Tracer's obedience buddies is a Leonberger named Brenton...
I wonder how it would feel like to be kissed by a Giant. Oh, but if you want a REALLY good kisser, I'd send you a good kisser. My dog likes to give French kisses.
I LIKE that dog!
(And Max will kiss your face nearly off if you need it or not)
What a big beautiful boy and quite a kisser.
How did you manage to get him on the table? Have fun in your new vocation and give the big guy a smooch from me next time.
Awww... he is a handsome boy! How fortunate you are to be doing something you love! I've only got a couple of years till retirement and am planning on doing something with animals in my second career too!
Oh, he's adorable. I had never seen a Leo either until I started going to the big dogs forum, and there is a sweet sweet Leo (named Cleo) who is the most gentle thing. She recently has taken over loving and caring for some beagle puppies.... TOO cute. She's known as the hairy dogmother !
What a beautie! Good luck in your new career :) I would not have to drag myself out of bed in the mornings if I got to have bath time with beauties like that everyday!

I'm going to have to look into the Leonberger breed, I'd never heard of them before. He's a big boy!

Fortunately Neo comes in on a regular basis and is comfortable climbing the steps up into the tub, coming down we put towels on the steps to make him a little more secure. He is so good in the tub that he gives you his feet to wash without asking for them. and for the record he took 3 hours to wash and blow dry.
Someone asked what is a Leonberger.....Before Friday I would have thought it was something on the menu at a German restauant but I looked it up. Mastiff, St. Bernard, Great Dane, and Great Pyrenese. primarily bred to oversee livestock but they were then used as draft dogs in Germany.
