not a cuddler

Sierra does not like to cuddle up or sit by us at all. She is happiest sitting and napping on the floor. Is this just her age since she is so young. I just remember my other two being cuddly from the beginning. We have tried to snuggle with her on our bed and she will have no part of it.

Molson was the same when we first brought him home but now he won't stay off the bed or couch and wants to snuggle all the time! Give her more time and she will grow into it.
Females tend to like their snuggling to be more on their terms than males. The females I've owned would only give me time on the couch or my bed. You just need to find the right time of day and place. Women ....they are so hard to figure out! ;);)
I think that's how females are, my first Golden was a female and she got more snuggly as she got older but nothing like Bogart.
Bogart takes any oportunty for a snuggle session.
All the best,
I agree with Oakly's Dad and Bogart's Mom, it's more the female temperament. Not that she won't get more snuggly as she gets older, but the females often seem to want attention on their terms whereas the males would crawl right inside your chest if they could!
I am not EVEN going to touch this one.....other than to say I hope he's talking about dogs here!!! ;)

Daisy's very aloof this way too, and she's almost 9 years old now so I don't expect much is going to change. She loves to be petted but just don't get too close. She'll spend about 10 minutes on the bed with me at night, I insist on that much :)
I'd give her time. Bailey is female and is very snuggly. She is with in two feet of me at all times.:D She does not sit in my lap, but rather at my legs on the recliner chair.
That's the basic difference between the males and females! In general, the females want to be within 2 feet of you. The males want to be WITHIN you. They will be on your lap at all times if you let them! Just my general observation.

:p: I don't know if Bailey would be in my lap, when I'm sitting here in the recliner I have the laptop taking up that space, but she is sure keeping me nice and toasty warm on this cold morning. When I lay on the floor, she is right up against my belly wagging her tail.
ah, how can you resist that adorable face? I'd have her on my lap for sure! :)

The funny thing is, my neighbor has a male golden across the street and he only wants to be pet on his own terms, which isn't often. He is the opposite from a snuggler and I always thought that was strange for being a male. Bailey is my first golden and I think I'm very lucky to have such an awesome pup. When I picked her out, she was the first pup out of the litter to come up and sit in my lap. I will do the same when picking out my next puppy. :D
I had heard that about the differences between the male and female and told my husband that at the time since he was the one set on a female. I think because our other female was a little snuggler from day one he thought this one would be. I feel so bad for him as he so wants her to cuddle with him.
It will take time. Flora was a little aloof when she was younger, but now, if I sit cross-legged on the ground, she will curl up her ENTIRE body right in my lap. It is quite a heavy load, but very soft and warm. :)
Misty was not a cuddler when she was younger..she has gotten better. Not as much as I would like...but she has gotten better. She likes to back in and have a nice back scratch. I wish she was more of a cuddler like my last golden...Sandy was a complete cuddler. But I love Misty and accept her cuddling when I can get it!! ;)
Savanah was the ultimate snuggler. She would always come over to me and lean on me for a hug. Chance wants to be NEAR me all the time, but he's not really a snuggler. He'll come over for a hug sometimes, and he'll want a looooong hug, but only when he wants one. Savanah would hug any time I needed one or she needed one.

Lucy has to have her body touching mine any time she's close and would be in a constant snuggle with me if she could. She sleeps under the covers at night and scoots her body all the way against mine. Chance will get on the bed for awhile but if our bodies touch AT ALL, he's off the bed.

It's so funny how they all have such different personalities and needs. Maybe as a generality, females are more aloof and males are more affectionate, but not in my family. :p:

HAHAHAHA!!

Now that someone mentioned the males vs. females, I'm thinking back to our previous dogs.

Our first 2 golden girls just snuggled with each other, not much with us.

Our 3rd girl was really snuggly and like velcro on my leg.

Our 4th golden is a boy (Skoker) and he is just way too hyper and obsessed with his balls to snuggle with anyone (he literally sits infront of the coffee table staring at you for hours at a time with a tennis ball in his mouth, waiting for you to come play).

Molson sleeps ON my pillow! Not just his head, but his entire body! And if it's not on my pillow, he sleeps right between/on top of Jay & I.

Think he could get any closer?

Scout is not much of a cuddler except at night in bed. She insists on sleeping in between my husband and I and lays right against one of us. During the day when we are just sitting around she likes her space...
Females definitely seem to be a lot more independent then males. Our female GSD is not a huge snuggler, but she always likes to be in the same room as us and will follow us around once in a while. Tucker, on the other hand, HAS to be in your lap the minute you sit down.

Here is a typical male golden for you. DH is in these pics somehwere

I have a male that isn't a snuggler (Parker) and one that practically has to be sitting on me or touching me at all times (Cam). It could just be your dogs personality. Parker has always been like that so when we got Camden is was a huge change. Parker is super friendly to everyone he meets but just doesn't seek out hugs and such from us at home. Everyone once in awhile he'll come up and want his paw to be pet or will lay by us on the bed... but usually he's content to lay a bit away from us or downstairs on the couch. Cam on the other hand is a complete velcro dog and is up my butt at all times. Tyson is another one that's not a snuggler... although he's a lab not a golden. He pretty much has the same personality as Parker.
