Ellvy's first few trips to the beach were great. She stayed away from the water. The last time gave me a slight scare - she walked toward the water and kinda bit the water and started chasing it. My concerns:

- how to get them to not swim out too far. (By the way, I still need to teach her to swim in a lake before I let her near the ocean again -any recommendations on that?)

- how to stop eating salt water!

I'll take a shot at this...I think your best bet is to develope a reliable recall - training, training, training and just a bit more training. Meanwhile I'd recommend a long rope, 30 ft or even longer, and keep Ellvy tied to this rope so you have total control over her. Be careful with the rope to make sure it doesn't get tangled on anything while she's in the water.

As far as drinking the salt water a trained leave it or ahh when you catch her doing this should help prevent it - but ya gotta keep your eye on her when ever she's near the water.

Hope this helps,

Pete
