Hello,
First of all I want to say that I've searched and found similar posts and read through them, finding great advice on how to care for my pup. But I feel like if I do not post myself and maybe get some extra help, I will not get any rest (Dad instincts kicking in I guess). This is essentially the first pet I've owned as an adult. I did not know any better and got a cute little golden puppy at 6 weeks old. I had no idea I should've waited longer, and I did not get the dog from a professional breeder, again, from lack of experience. I've been reading into all the problems that can arise from getting a puppy too early and, frankly, I'm a little scared because I already fell in love with this little guy. Tonight is his first night at home, I'm crate training, not letting him bite, leash and potty training him, as well. My girlfriend's family has a couple dogs, one medium sized and one small, both are really sweet. After Whiskey (he's a reddish Golden so I thought it was a good name for him) has had his shots, I'll let him socialize with the dogs. I already have an appointment for his first round of shots in a few days. I am a college student but my girlfriend and I will have time to care for him, specially right now during summer I have enough time to pay a lot of attention to the dog. Still, I am worried. Is there anything else I can do to make sure he grows up social, happy, and overall a great dog? I've been wanting this dog for a long time, Golden's are my favorite.
I really want to make sure he grows up well. I would really appreciate any advice to help me raise this puppy into a healthy dog.
Thanks,
Carlos
