Hi,
We are looking for advice. We have a long story, which I'm sorry to say is posted on Rainbow Bridge. Our 2 year, 10 month old Golden girl just passed away. She had a tumor on her spine. We need to contact our breeder, but haven't yet. They were backyard breeders and were not supposed to breed our puppie's Mom, which we have recently found out through some research. We also can't find any information on-line about our pup's Dad, even though we have the AKC numbers. We hope to obtain information from these people, specifically to find out who has the other puppies and if they are ok. Any ideas on what we should do? We're so heartbroken from this.
Thanks.

Hmmm. I really do not know much about this. But I think the breeders name is on the papers (maybe I am wrong). If they are I would try looking them up on whitepages.com and see if you can get any numbers this way.

Sorry for your loss! I hope you can get some answers!

The breeders bred a dog who wasn't on full registration, there wouldn't be AKC papers.

If you have the dad's AKC numbers, you can go to this page on akc.org and put it into the box on the page. It should give you the registered name of the dog. If the dog's name doesn't come up, the number you have isn't actually registered.

Once you have the full name, you can search on k9data.com to see if the dog comes up, though an improperly bred dog by backyard breeders might not have gotten listed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I would think the best way to go is to contact the breeder. If they did not own the sire also they should be able to provide that info. They may not be willing to give the name/contact info of the owners of the other pups and chose to contact them themselves. Even with the AKC number it may not be possible to contact the sire's owners.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. The contact numbers we have for them have been disconnected, with no listings available. So, we'll apparently never know if this has happened to others because of them.

Sorry for your loss. Two years ago we lost two dogs and both of our fathers within four months. (That's why Sully is so spoiled--we got her in the middle of this.) I always worry about my breeder. Our Basset was a rescue from a backyard breeder. They decided she wasn't cute enough to keep so they just gave her to us--their loss. I made contact a few years later; they had kept the same number, but moved. They no longer were in the breeding business because it wasn't as fun as they original thought.

do you know their names? there are tons of ways to search for them besides whitepages/phone number searches.

What state do you live in and in what city? You can search your local tax assessor or land assessor's page to find their legal mailing address if they own a home. google: ""your county" county assessor" and hopefully you can find a website.

You can PM me with this info if you would like me to do it... I certainly don't mind!

I am so to hear you lost your youngster. It hurst so much to say goodbye, and never more than so very out of time.

If you have your pup's akc number, you can find littermates by using the AKC website's search feature and changing the last number- like if your pup's number ends in 03, put the same number in but ending in 02, 01, 04, 05, 06 etc. You will find any littermates who are registered at least. This feature is under the 'Store" section in "Online Pedigree Research.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. No AKC number for my pup. The people we got her from had limited registration on their dogs, but bred them anyway. Wish I had known then all that I know now:( Maybe we'll try the Craigslist idea.

Do you have the AKC numbers of the parents? That would identify their litter number and if one sibling was listed on k9data you might be able to go backward to the breeder of the parents and get info for your breeder. The owners of the grandsires probably want to know about this as welll....just saying. Lots of us would help with sleuthing if you wanted help.
