It's been a long time since I have posted. It's hard for me to come back here now after losing Gunner in July 2021 and now Honey in November 2022. But I wanted to let the ones that have followed us over the years hear about Honey. Honey was 11 years old and would have turned 12 this month. She was having some spine issues, but I was taking her to a rehabilitation center. She was having acupuncture, hydrotherapy on a treadmill and massage therapy. She swam many times last summer in a lake and in a saltwater pool near our house. No other health issues. She seemed to be doing well. We were also doing pet therapy at Children's Hospital.
I took her to a friend's house on November 9th and we walked the property, a few acres and visited with my friend and her husband for the day. Next day we started on a morning walk, she was falling behind and walking slow. I thought we over did it the day before, so I took her home. She laid around the rest of the day and seemed off to me. She ate her dinner and then just wandered around the house and couldn't get comfortable. I took her outside and she laid down and closed her eyes. I walked over to her, and she moved to the far back of the yard and laid down again. This time she threw up three times and then fell over on her side. It was late afternoon, but I was able to get her to the regular vet. He carried her to the back and did an Xray and blood work. He said it really didn't tell him much, but her gums were tacky and pale. He felt she was having a bleed. He sent us to the ER. The carried her in and took her in the back to have an ultrasound. The vet came out and told me that she had fluid around her heart. I asked him to drain it to make her comfortable so she could be seen the next morning by the Cardiologist. They drained it and monitored her all night. Next day they did an Echo and saw an extra-large mass on her heart. They called me with that information, and I told them I would be out to see her and send her to be with Gunner at the bridge.
It was such a shock! I watched Gunner die over the last seven months of his life with his hemangiosarcoma. That was very hard, but this was so sudden. I was in shock for several days. I still can't believe she is gone. My two babies are at the bridge together now. Thank you to all that followed my kids over the years.
Here are a couple pictures I had drawn of Gunner and Honey.
