Hopefully this stems from some sort of infection or something else easily taken care of.

Copper had his spleen removed in his senior years. He had two tumors and they were benign. There are two other members here who have or have had spleenless goldens and they have all done well.
Yes and i am one of one Meg had her spleen removed at 10 years old and did just fine for nearly another 3 years :)

Here's wishing and praying (hard) that all goes well today
at the specialists. I really feel for you and Davis.
My boy was very sick this time last year and it
takes a lot out of you. Trying to keep your emotions
in check around them is exhausting.

Sorry I haven't posted here - when I saw it Davis had improved. I am so sorry to see that he's sick again. He is lucky his human loves him so and is willing to find a way to give him whatever veterinary care he needs! I hope that this turns out to be a somewhat easy fix and he is feeling better soon!

My Toby had his spleen removed at 8 years old, he just turned 13. He had a benign mass in his spleen.
One of the golden retrievers I board here at the pet hotel had a partial splenic torsion. They ended up not having to remove his spleen, but they did have to operate on him to fix it. I'm not sure what they did so it wouldn't happen again, but he lived to be almost 15, this happened when he was about 12.
Hoping for the best for you!

Strangely enough, or do to all my forum friends rooting for him, Davis seems totally fine today. He even slept last night without the heavy breathing noises. I had to go shake him once to make sure he was ok because he sleeps with his eyes partially open. His heart rate seems normal. He is spunky and his eyes look brighter. His excessive thirst is gone as well.

Talked to the specialist and he has been going over all his previous tests. He doesn't think it is spleenic torsion ( I guess it was a possibility, but that's all I heard). He believes his spleen may have enlarged due to stress (from retching) and his almost passing out was caused by a "vagal response.". His blood work is all normal. He thinks the additional testing can wait, but to bring him in if he seems to be in pain, or experiencing instability.

I am relieved, yet still feeling a little unsure.
