HELLO!

My 13 month old Golden was just diagnosed with ED. He had a slight limp in his right leg and I took him in where he was then diagnosed. I have an appointment with an orthopedic vet today. Teddy is like my 4th child and will pretty much do whatever I can to make his life a happy one.
I have spent some time researching and find to have a split decision on surgery vs medical treatment. I plan on getting two opinions on his condition so i can go over my options.

How many of you did get the surgery? Is this a a horrible thing ?

He is on Rimdyl and has not limped at all and is acting like himself... i know the side effects can be harsh so I am not really into keeping him on that for too long. I just ordered Glucosamine/ MSM/ sulfate pills to give him daily that i have read can help a ton.

I am so sad for my teddy.

I'm sorry to hear about Teddy's diagnosis, good to hear you're getting a second opinion.
The more information you have and options is always good IMO.

I don't have any experience with this so I can't offer you any advice or my experience.
Several members have though, hope you'll find the information you're looking for here.

You want to have a orthopedic specialist evaluate your dog and his elbows - not a regular vet who does the orthopedic surgeries there.

We opted not to do surgery on our golden who had elbow dysplasia... and I would honestly be very hesitant to have the surgery done unless you are looking at an extreme case.

Yes we are heading to an orthopedic specialist today. We will then evaluate teddys situation.

I'm hoping to not have to do surgery either, but will do whatever it takes.
