Here are some pictures from our trip. In the end we drove a total of 3326 miles over about 13 days.

Near Crater Lake National Park

Shasta Lake

Shasta Lake

New Brighton State Beach (near Santa Cruz, CA)

Ran into another golden retriever pup the same age. Her name is Lucy and Murphy loved her.

"Walk softly and carry a big stick" (New Brighton)

Learning to swim in the ocean!! He was pretty petrified of the waves at first. (New Brighton State Beach)

Getting into it.

In Newport Beach, CA. This is Murphy with his cousin, a lab who is also named Murphy! They have the same last name too. We ended up referring to them as "Murphy north" and "Murphy south" the 3 days we were there :)

Murphy-south has a saltwater swimming pool in his backyard.

Batman imitation.

Near Mendecino, CA.

Standard travel position.

The Trees of Mystery! HUGE redwoods and TOTALLY and COMPLETELY dog friendly! Even the gift shop :) There was a guy inside this statue who kept talking to Murphy -- poor puppy could not figure out where the voice was coming from.

These roots are 3000 years old.

They have a skytram/gondola ride that you take over the canopy. Murphy remains unconvinced about the enjoyability of gondola rides but enjoyed the view from the top :)

Found a chipmunk :)

They have a bunch of really cool carvings from the tales of paul bunyan.

I have a few more photos from Crater Lake and the Huntington Beach dog beach but they are on my boyfriends camera which he left in LA. So hopefully I will have those to post when we get it back :)

Murphy was the absolute PERFECT travel dog. He has camped before (at about 11 weeks). But we did so many new things on this trip - 8 hr driving days, ocean swimming, gondola rides, hotel stays, visiting family with a dog, etc... And he was amazing. He slept the whole time in the car, usually with his front paws/head on the middle console and his rear end on the backseat so he could be in on the action if anything exciting happened.

looks like all had a good time. I love the Murphy North and South. I had no idea they had salt water pools...thats so cool.

Your trip looked great and your pup looks like he had a blast.
Love his head in the turtle, it's like he went all limp...to funny.
Great pictures!! Looks like you guys had so much fun!! Murphy is adorable!!

We just moved to Whidbey Island and Bellingham is so close! We should get together sometime!! :)
What a wonderful vacation that you got to share with Murph. It sounds like he was an angel got to experience many many new things. Vacations are always so much better when the pups get to come along. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
What a great vacation yall had. Murphy looks like a seasoned traveler now. Just sleeps in the back seat. The one picture of him running into the lake made me smile with how fast he is running.
Murphy North and Murphy South look like the best of buddies in the pool together. Murphy is probably telling all his buddies at home now of all the fun times he had on vacation. And being eaten by a giant snake.

Yeah! I think the idea behind the saltwater pool is that you don't have to use all the chemicals. The kids in this family play water polo and swim a lot in chlorine pools, so they didn't want any more chlorine in their lives :)
That looks like so much fun! I can't wait for the day we can take our baby on vacations (a day we can afford long trips). Very nice pics!
Great vacation it seems for all of you, very nice pictures.
Wow! I hardly know where to start. But you have a very kool dawg, up for anything. He's got to know he has the best parents EVER!

California has THE BEST swimming pools. I'd love to jump into that one myself. Love the chipmunk pic...your expression is priceless.

Thanks for sharing. Great pictures. :D
Beautiful pictures! Looks like you all had lots of fun! :)
WOW...what a great time you all had. You and Murphy are so lucky to have each other. He is a great dog!
What great pictures .. it looks like you had a lovely trip and Murphy sure is growing fast :)
What a lucky dog Murphy is and what terrific pics! I can't beleive how much Murphy looks like his "cousin" Asia did at that age. He is so handsome and obviously well loved. Thanks for sharing your vacation pics.
