Moose and I went fishing today. He got out in and out of the boat just fine. The last stop I asked him to stay in the boat but he got out and was quickly reminded to get back into the boat. When I got back to the boat his was favoring his right rear foot and leg. I did a quick assesment of his leg and foot and found nothing wrong. We we got to the boat ramp he ran around and played with another dog while I got things put together so I didn't think much about it anymore. We had a 2 1/2 drive home and he slept the whole time. When I got home he refused to jump out of the truck and I had to pick him up. He would not walk on his leg and has been limping around the house since we got home. I have determined his leg is not broken by touching and feeling his hip, foot and leg. He is sleeping right now. I gave him some pain medication that was left over from a vet visit when he was nutured. I think he sprained his leg but I don't know. Hoping maybe you all could give some advice. I will take him to the vet tomorrow if he is still limping. If it is a sprain should I see some great improvement by the morning?

I think you are handling things just fine. I've been through the same situation many a time and a couple of days usually makes things just fine. Any longer than that and I would make a trip to the vet.

By the way besides Moose being hurt today was awesome! We caught 3 Steelhead! Steelhead travel 1500 miles from the ocean, through 4 dams up the Columbia river, to the snake and than to the Salomon River in Central Idaho to spawn. I use a Spey rod with classic salmon flies to catch them. 3 Steelhead in one day on a spey rod is really amazing. Chances are I will never catch this many in one day for the rest of my life!

Take it easy for the next couple of days and not let him jump down on it. Hopefully he has just strained it and will be ok. They just dont seem to know their limits sometimes.

Congrats on the fish.

Moose was limping around a lot better this morning so I am going to wait one more day and see if it is healing better. Its hard to keep a young 2 year old calm, but at least he is obedient most of the time.

Hopefully he just pulled a muscle and landed wrong and tomorrow he is walking ok.

Did you check his paw for any foreign object that may have lodged there...just a thought! Anyways, give him a day if he doesn't seem in great distress and if he does take him to see the vet.
