Looking for breeders in/near CT

My lab of 14 years recently passed and after a lot of deliberation my boyfriend and I are looking to add a golden retriever to our family in the spring/summer of 2024 and have begun our search for an ethical/responsible breeder. We live in CT and are willing to travel within the New England area. I have spent a lot of time going through the forums here, but was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the following breeders:

Indian Trail Goldens: Golden Retriever Puppies in Connecticut
Abalee Goldens: Abalee Golden Retrievers was established in 1994. Abalee Golden Retrievers is a small hobby kennel located in the tranquil hills of Fairfield County in Connecticut.

I have seen a couple of threads on Abalee, but not much on Indian Trail. Would love to hear anyone's experiences with these breeders or if you have any other suggestions for breeders to look at!

Welcome to the forum!

First off, I want to make sure you've found these two threads:

Abalee is a reputable breeder and would be a great choice for a puppy.

I have no experience with Indian Trail, and in a quick look at their website I didn't see any information about their breeding dogs, which is what we'd need to verify they are doing Code of Ethics-compliant health screenings. I found a bunch of dogs on K9Data with their kennel prefix, but the few I spot checked did not have complete clearances, so at a minimum you would want to get the registered names/numbers of the potential parents and let the more experienced folks here on the forum take a look for you.

I did also use the Forum's search function to search on "Indian Trail" and found them mentioned a few times. It might be worth taking a look at what has already been discussed (pro and con).

Thank you so much I will definitely check out those two threads! Indian trail was one that I think looked great at first glance but felt like maybe it was missing something from the website. I wasn’t sure if that was accurate or if people had good experiences with them outside of that.
On our second Golden from Cloverdale. Jane’s dogs are incredible.

BTW, our first dog (20 years ago) was a lab. For our second we went with a Golden thinking, “They’re just labs with long hair.” We quickly learned that is NOT the case. 😂 Needless to say we fell in love and now I’d never consider any other breed, but be sure to do your homework.

Thank you I’ll check out cloverdale! All of my friends growing up had golden retrievers and I love their personalities so I am very excited!

We have a Sunfire puppy, located in Suffield CT. They have many agility and show dogs, as well as happy family members. Join their waiting list if interested. Good luck!
I think you will find all clearances in order for Indian Trail. Sharon is involved with showing and from what I have seen has some nice dogs. As always ask for the parents registered names and verify clearances yourself.
Pebwin in Monson, MA.
Sheaman Kennel in Hardwick, MA
I got my wonderful pup from Amanda at Sheaman about six months ago. He is absolutely wonderful.
Forgot to mention, avoid this place (Rensselaer): What am I looking at on k9data?
Oh thank you for letting me know, I have seen that name a couple of times on here.

Sheaman breeds some beautiful dogs! We have family in MA so we have definitely expanded our search up there and will check those out, thank you!

Thank you, when we begin reaching out to the breeders on our list I will absolutely be asking for parents names. The dogs she breeds are beautiful!

Best wishes in your search!
Does anyone have any thoughts on Tangleloft Goldens in MA? There are a bunch of threads about them but not any very recent ones!

No personal experience but I do know they are a reputable breeder who has been around a long time…
thank you! They have a bunch of threads of people praising them on here so it’s looking like they are going to be at the top of our list when we start contacting breeders :)
