Hi everyone!

Hope all is well :) I've been on the search for a golden retriever for months now, with the anticipation of a waitlist being a year + out. I live in the Bay Area, CA, and have been looking for reputable breeders for some time, with most of their waitlists being full already until Summer of 2022/ or they're slowing down their breeding/ or they have been very slow with responding, or their prices have increased to $3,000+. I'm open to exploring other locations as well, as I've already searched for breeders in Southern CA, (I've seen Dana's referrals via this forum, thank you Dana!, and @kwhit's thread as well! thank you!), and have seen other threads on here that are a bit old from 2011 and on. I would love to maybe start a new updated thread here if anyone knows of reputable breeders for those living on the West Coast area.

I'm looking for a healthy family dog, with no interest in breeding or showing. Given that the prices for goldens have increased..ideally now, I would like to find a golden around the $3,000 range or under (hopefully under lol!). I'm okay with waiting until late 2021, or early 2022 if possible to get my golden since waitlists are long!

I'm still new to this forum, but I just wanted to list a few breeders off my own research, but have heard good things about. I'll also mention a few of the ones I have reached out to. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm still learning more as well! :) And I would love more suggestions on breeders that you would recommend. I'm willing to drive to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, or Arizona. Thank you everyone. Cheers!

Birnam Wood - Cotati, CA
(I've heard many great things about Sylvia. Heard that she's a very respectable person to work with)

Shyan Goldens - Oregon
(Have not reached out, but heard a few good things. Don't have too much info on this breeder. I heard they have show and obedience dogs)

Osprey Goldens - Sacramento, CA
(Heard wonderful things about Wendy & Jan)

Cielos Golden Retrievers - San Jacinto, CA
(Heard great things about Cielos goldens as well. I've reached out, and received an automated response that they will be having more puppies this summer, and to reach out again in June. They will be taking deposits for the summer litter in June)

Golden Treasure Retrievers - Alta, CA
(Heard great things about Amy as well! I know someone who's gotten a puppy from her recently, and the pup has been an absolute bundle of joy.)

Dream Golden Retrievers - Hollister, CA
(One of the first places I've reached out to when I first started looking for breeders, and I received a message back saying that she does not believe she will have a litter of puppies until possibly sometime after the middle of 2021)

Little Bitta Luck Farms - Moapa, NV (an hour north of Las Vegas)
(Got recommended to me by someone on this forum!)

Whiskey Creek Goldens - Scappoose, OR
(Heard amazing things about Christa and her pups!)

I’m new to the site and we are waiting for our breeder’s next litter, but I know Lockwood Goldens in Lockford, Ca has a litter in midmarch and our breeder Jauregui Goldens may have a spot for a May litter (Izzy). Alyce at Lockwood Goldens is very friendly, experienced, and patient. Raudel at Jauregui is great.

I also live in the Bay Area and have been searching for reputable breeders in the area and it seems impossible to find one in the area. Have you found your puppy already?

Hi there! I ended up going with Whiskey Creek Goldens in Oregon! I'm on the waitlist for late fall this year :) Best of luck to you! Christa has been very nice to talk to and many great things were said about her and her pups!

If you are looking for a Golden Retriever and live in Northern California or near the San Francisco Bay Area consider Lockwood Goldens in Lockford, CA. This is a legitimate establishment with honest business people. You will not be on a wait list for one or two years. I picked up my English Cream Golden Retriever in May 2021, and we only started the process in January 2021, it was a four month process.

I contacted many breeders all over the state and they let me know the waitlist was 1-2 years, that their contract was a $500 non-refundable deposit, and that the wait could possibly go longer. Nonsense. An honest breeder will contact you when they’re about to have puppies and then the deposit is due for goods sold (puppy). The contract will be clear and concise that your deposit is for this litter with the option to forward it toward the next litter if the puppy you want is not born (ie., you want a male but only female dogs are born).

I had the best experience of getting my puppy through Lockwood Goldens. They have maybe 4-5 puppies who went to homes in San Francisco and the Bay Area. A truly remarkable experience and only 1.5-hours from San Francisco.

The dogs listed on Lockewood’s website, Dani, Cloud, and Wesley, only have hips and elbows listed on the OFA website, no heart or eye clearances. Did they provide you with copies of heart clearance by a cardiologist and annual eye exams? The other dog Frenk who is not owned by them but listed as one of their sires (I’m guessing they frequently use him for their bitches, he’s also the father of their male Wesley) had only a single eye exam that’s now years expired and an inadequate heart clearance (by a practitioner rather than a cardiologist).

Pismo needs a visit to the ophthalmologist imo.... I think (since pet vets are not eye specialists) you would be smart to get him in- list of ophthalmologists: www.acvo.org
