Hi everyone,

my 9 month old retriever has been excessively licking and nibbling at her right front and back paw (area between the pads) for the last 2 weeks.

At first it was red so I washed her paws twice a day with an antiseptic/antifungal shampoo. Now it has turned to purplish pink color and still continues to lick at it whenever things gets quiet down.

Also, she really likes to chase after her tail and sometimes tugs rly hard at her fur and rips off chunks of her fur. I can't tell if she's playing or there's something wrong with her tail.

Has anyone experienced this before?

hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance !

Cheryl

Might be an allergy to something. I would check with your vet before she licks or chews to much and hurts herself.

The paw licking sounds like an allergy. It could be food or enviromental. My Hank has fall allergies and when he starts licking his paws I know it's time for his allergy shot.

It's hard to say about the tail chasing, it just might be playing but I'd discourage it by redirecting.
