I’m new to this and I know there are other threads but I didn’t want this to get buried. I didn’t see a >1 year pup health section- sorry if I missed it.
So, after becoming Web-Vet in the last two days I’ve come to the conclusion that my boy has Juvenile Pyoderma, but we are taking him to the vets tomorrow since I am usually wrong. I just wanted to see what everyone’s opinion is, I’ll like a YouTube Vid and post some stills. He is an English Cream and his skin, including his fat belly and groin are darker than most pictures I’ve found to compare. Also, anyone who has had this come back- any tips on prevention?
Basically it seems like the vaccination has been the biggest culprit in a lot of the JP cases. I read it somewhere else, it made sense so I’m preaching it like it was my idea. The puppy’s immune system, under developed as it is at their age gets occupied with the undertaking of recognizing and developing an immunity to rabies or more, therefore bacterial infections are primed to take hold. I’ll link first the forum thread that I hopefully understood all of this from, and a vet who offered the explanation plainly, and suggested holistic alternatives- which I’m undecided on, not even on the fence yet. But it’s interested. Second will be my YouTube link to a quick video of Ghost’s troubles. I’ll post some stills for anyone who doesn’t want to watch the 30 second clip.

It does not look like cellulitis to me which is all pyoderma is.
Plus in puppies that usually starts on the face.
His dark belly is a good thing- don't worry about that at all.

Not sure if this is the same but my eng cream had a very dark belly (good thing—nice pigment and changed to pink) and had a case of what my vet called “puppy pimples”. She gave us an ointment that cleared it immediately. Didn’t help that it was summer and he was constantly in the baby pool so damp a lot. He totally outgrew this. It did freak me out at first one of the pimples was quite large!

My English cream puppy experienced pyoderma several times last summer when he was between age 5 and ten months. I found he was afflicted after a swim or getting soaked after a rain storm . He outgrow the issue as he reached a year of age. Keeping him dry was how I stopped the occurrence and also gave him apple cider vinegar with the mother in his kibble twice a day. I also cleaned his bedding and kennel weekly. He had two courses of oral antibiotics but was as soon as he went off the antibiotics the pyoderma appeared under his forelegs and his scrotum area. When he was neutered again the pyoderma appeared but less severe. We { our vet and I kept on eye on his sores}. We also gave him probiotics which also I think helped . In all honestly the vet thought it was just due to an immature immune system that he was susceptible but I continued to clean his bedding and kennel and applying apple cider vinegar to his sores.
