I know that this is probably one the most asked training questions, but i can not get our Milo to stop jumping up on the counter or table. Its hard to sit at the table and eat without him jumping up on you or the table. Any updated new training solutions?????

thanks

For me, the easiest solution (besides putting dog in crate) to discourage a dog from jumping up while you're eating your meal is to bring a handful of treats to the table. Ask the dog to sit or down, and then reward frequently for good behavior. One of my dogs automatically comes and lies down by my feet when I am eating something. Yes, this is a form of begging so some will not like it, but since the dog is not jumping in my face (or in my food), I am okay with it.

Teach him the command "GO LAY DOWN." If he doesn't, physically take him by the collar and make him lay down. I can't imagine letting a dog jump on me or the table while eating!

I also use the "Go lie down" command. Be really consistent, and reward him periodically by going to him and giving him a dog treat (not people one) while he is lying in his place. For persistent dogs, this takes a while, but stick with it. A dog that jumps up at the table while you are eating does not have good manners, and can definitely learn better ones with an effort from you. Counter cruising, while I am not at home, I too struggle with. I have heard that mouse traps set near tempting items helps, but have not gone that route yet. I just make sure that there are no tempting items on the counter.
