jealously in dogs?

I went to a seminar of positive training and there they were suggesting that there is no such think as jealously between dogs. Also, that dogs dont live in herds, but in teams, so there is no leader in a team, of course a stronger dog when eating, or other dog when playing etc.
So there is no issue for a dog trying to take the place of a new member coming in the "team". Its reaction towards a new baby (for example)would be because the dog has not ever seen a baby before....it is something new for him and he is afraid.

Any suggestions?

No Jealousy between dogs? ...... Wow someone needs to tell my 2...... LOL :)
When I am petting one dog but not the other I certainly see and hear jealousy with barking as well as pushing their way in to get the attention and to push the other one out.........
oh,yes,i have one jealous blond over here.ME<ME<ME only me LOL
All 3 of my dogs are part of the WAM brigrade (What About Me).
I vote that dogs are indeed jealous LOL
I do not believe dogs experience bitter jealousy like we do. If a dog butts in between you and another dog, it's because it works. You'll pet him. He'll get what he wants.

If he snaps at the other dog, again. It's because it works. The other dog moves away.
Oh yeah - rule #1 here: It's all about Riley.

I don't know if a dog experiences "jealousy" exactly the same way we do, but there's definitely something that makes them compete for attention. It might be more of a resource guarding issue than actual jealousy?

Riley can be peacefully snoozing on the couch, paying no attention to me whatsoever. The minute Gunner comes up to me for attention, Riley comes running, pushes Gunner out of the way and climbs up in my lap.

I can agree with the "it works" explanation, but there's something beyond that, that makes him do it in the first place.
I once saw Piper running after her sister Ginger with a steak knife in her mouth...jealousy? Nah...
I agree dogs get the what about me jealousy maybe not the that dog got more than I did jealousy. Jealousy is a human emotion but they have their feelings of needing to be included.

Dogs are not a pack but a team? HHMMM that I don't understand. I would have liked to hear the description. To me just in watching my own dogs, they have a "pack" behavior. They look to the leader, they have an alpha or leader dog, they also include DH and I in their pack dynamic. Each of my dogs has a role, it has changed recently so I am not sure right now what is what. Max was the alpha, Belle was the protector. Teddi is just a member. I say now Belle is the queen, Teddi is now the princess. :p:

Its been told that the reason a dog gets between 2 people who are sitting very close to each other on the sofa, its because he wants to avoid a comflict between the 2 persons, as thier bodies are to close, like a comflict posture in dogs world!
