He has been on the Venison and Potato diet trial almost 8 weeks, and on antibiotics all that time. Keflex for six weeks and now Clindomycin. And we still have staph under the armpits and groin area. I am so ready to figure this allergy thing out.

On a good note, there is very little scratching. And no other health problems that I'm aware of.

Next step if the Clindomycin doesn't work, cultures of the infected areas.

The vet hasn't cultured this and it's been going on for two months? I'd be looking for a new vet!!!! I sure hope this clears up soon for your pupper.

When Bama had the staph infection, my vet gave us shampoo to wash him every other day and it cleared the spots right up. The micro-tek shampoo is a wonder when they have the itchies from something.

Scout had one round of it and he cleared up. We also had medicated wipes to use on the underarms and tummy area daily.

He did well once we had both.

I say this alot, but Noah had food allergies and Science Diet Z/D was a god send.

Wow, that is very surprising. Cephelexin always cleared Abby up in a couple of days. I'm surprised if there are still red bumps that it isn't itchy. Are you going to a dermatologist or your general vet?

This Is the 1st time Cephelexin hasn"t cleared it up. The areas of staph that are left are very small near his groin and armpits. I have to really search for them under the hair. Yes, he is going to a dermatologist I PMd you about it a while back.

This wasn't my vet. This was the dermatologist my vet sent me to because the staph kept recurring. He initially taped the lesion to see that it was bacteria. I think what he may be suggesting now is swabbing the areas to see which antibiotic the organisim responds to rather than just using a broad spectrum antibiotic

I use the micro-tec but only about once a week. Crockett has a beautiful healthy coat, and scratches very little. When he has staph I only know it because I may feel a scab under his fur. Some times the vet has found it even when I hadn't noticed.
