Laylas spay appointment is tomorrow... I have to drop her off between 8 and 9:00 am. I had another scare today... I don't know what possessed me to call and check, but I am glad I did. Originally I was told she had to spend the night - that was not sitting right with me. When I called and expressed my concern on Monday I was told that nooo I could pick her up in the afternoon. The next day I had to pick up heartworm meds, so I made sure that they wrote in the surgery book that I was picking her up the same day.

Well.. sure enough today I was told she had to spend the night, that it was not written in the book, then I was told that it was not legible blah blah blah... LOL. I insisted she put the Vet on the phone or we would reschedule for another time. I was put on hold, she came back and said she rescheduled it for first thing in the morning, and I can pick her up tomorrow afternoon. Geesh!

Layla is such a skeerdy cat...leaving her there overnight is not even a possibility LOL. This morning she freaked out for a half hour because a plastic bag was in our yard - yes even when I brought it in and showed it to her she shook and cried. She is not like any retriever I have ever had before...I love her tons but she is a bit strange :).

So needless to say I am worried about my little peanut...I am afraid she is going to hurt, I am afraid she will be traumatized, etc. After all she is my baby now... so please keep her in your thoughts, and hold my hand through this.

thanks in advance,

Julie

Not sure if I will be of any help but maybe this isn't the time for Layla to have this procedure. Do you have to use this vet?

Always listen to your gut. I'd much rather read that you are comfortable with the clinic but are fearful because this is your baby. Reading both makes me a bit nervous too.

Listen to your inner voice. Rarely does mine let me down.

Thank you,

The Vet is wonderful, the best surgeon around here (I wish he did humans)...but the girls in the office can be a bit disorganized to say the least LOL. I know the Vet would probably let me take her home the same day, no matter what time he did the surgery - it's just getting through those darn office girls.

I will be thinking of you both. When they go under we all get nervous. Let us know when she gets home!
thanks Kimm,

will do...I hate this with any of my dogs, but even moreso with the little peanut.

that's good to read. Let us know how she is tomorrow night. The real challenge will be keeping her calm and comfortable with the hood. KUP!

I'll be thinking of you both. Penny & Maggie were spayed on the same morning, and I brought them home late afternoon. They were groggy and pretty out of it. By the next day, although a little less active, they were fine. And then the trick was keeping them calm and restful.

yup, calm and restful is gonna be a bit difficult LOL. I have a feeling the peanut is going to be in her crate a lot - but then we can't use the collar. I will have to rig up a t-shirt or something for her I guess, and keep her attached to me at all times.

Will be thinking of you on Friday. I suspect that you will be told that they will call when Layla is ready to be picked up. Forget about waiting to hear from them. I would suggest a follow up phone call mid-day to see how she is progressing. If the office girls think you are a pain in the neck... too bad.

You'll be in my prayers. My Sully wasn't scared of anything for awhile, but since my neighbors had a war of fireworks, she is scared of anything loud. I know you're not supposed to give affection during these times, but it breaks my heart to see her upset. I'd rather see my little demon girl picking on her brother. Hope all goes well. Let us know tomorrow night if you have time.

Its ok.

I cried when I dropped Hudson off if that makes you feel any better:(. I expected him to be lethargic and sleepy. Nope. Not the case. He bounded around the desk at the vet and acted like nothing had happened. I worried incessantly weeks before I took him in. Your girl will be just fine. I know it. I'll be thinking about her. And you too:p:
