I have worked for this retail store for the last 5yrs. I had moved up from customer service to a shift team leader.

Last saturday was my day off. My coffee maker that I purchased there went to heck. I told a co-worker about it and told her that if the cleaner I was buying wouldnt work that I was going to bring it back. Well the cleaner did nt work. I wasnt going to go to town that day but sister asked me to ride along to get dog food.

I too the coffee pot in and set it on the counter told the cashier I was replacing it as it quit working. I thought it was a Mr. Coffee. ( I have purchased so many coffee pots in the last few years). I picked up a programmable coffee pot and took it up front. There was a little line and I asked the cashier for a defective slip so I could write down the sku number as it was on the box. I left with the coffee pot.

It was an honest mistake I didnt have a Mr. Coffee I had a procter Silex. Loss Prevention was called in the asst. manager didnt ask me about it didnt ask me if I would pay the differance ( which I would have in a heart beat) they just called loss prevention like I was a thief. My job was worth more than 23$.
I want to know why the cashier didnt get in trouble for not opening the bag I brought in if she had done her part we would have known what type of coffee maker I had. I was told that I should have known. Heck I dont know that stuff you buy something it works for a bit and goes to heck you get a new one.

I am going to appeal the termination but I dont want to go back to work there. They have hated me for some time there. They put me down in front of customers. I am not stupid in fact I can run every part of the store. I had keys if I wanted to steal I would not have gone through the line. I think it was discrimation because I am Native. The former Managers wife filed a complaint against me too and it wasnt even me. I was punched out at the time and not in the store but corperate called to find out why I did such a thing.

I just felt like ranting. I cant put this on FB because I can not appeal if I say anything against the company and you all dont know where I work like FB does.

Thanks for listening ( reading).

I'm so sorry. I would try to get this misunderstanding worked out since it could be a negative on your employment history... even if you never go back to work there. I hope things resolve to your liking.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. Our son went thru this a few years ago. Called out of a meeting and told to collect this things and escorted from the building. In retrospect, they were just looking for a reason and they picked up on a harmless thing that he did for an excuse.

If it's any comfort to you, it was the best thing that happened to him. He's way better off now than he was then. But it was horribly traumatic for the whole family at the time.

Sending prayers and hugs that this gets cleared up and you find another job. Stores are hiring for the holidays at least.

I'm sorry that you are going through this.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (US EEOC Home Page) may be able to help if you file a complaint with them. The process is slow, but it does work.

Things are so different in Canada. I worked LP for a few years and if there was something sketchy going on with an employee, we had to do a tedious long investigation on them and even then a lot of the time there wasn't enough evidence to do anything. You most definately would not have been fired. The most the would have done was told you to bring the proper coffee maker in the next time you were working. I would definately appeal it, even if you don't want to keep the job, the point was it was an honest mistake(it happens a lot) not a thief.

thank you. I have filed for umeployment already. I have gathring all the info I have on the place and I will submit it. when I have some friuends look it over to make sure the wording is correct and it sounds professional not overly passionate. I know that the former manager was looking for something to fire me on and the one that called it in was his pet. He told me point blank that he perfered the other two cashiers to me and that they were harder workers than me when I work the whole store and they cant keep up with a few aisles. My name is on some many reports it isnt even funny. they have not done any of the stuff that is required of them I have done it all.

Yes I am Native and I will stand up for myself. i have stood up to bullies my whole. I have to show my son that we are who we are and that we are just as good as everyone else.

I'm in the same boat as you, I can't believe how poorly some employers treat there employees... I was recently fired two weeks ago out of the blue... no explanation, nothing... just went into work one day they called me to the managers office, had me sign papers and that was it. There were a bunch of people who didn't like me either... I was nice to everyone, go figure. This probably happened for the best though... it's not good to work in a hostile environment where people are out to get you.

Yes I believe it is for the best. The place has been making me ill for some reason. I can not get over any illness I catch. Plus I have been feeling strange about going in lately. I get there first to open the store. It is a rather seedy part of town. I hear strange noises in the building. I have not felt safe.

I am going to concentrate on getting well and my art and help my son get ready to take his GED( my son has a learning disablity).

That sounds like a great plan.... Everything happens for a reason, maybe something bad is going to happen there, hence the bad feeling and illness (or the store could have bad dust and mold).

When one door closes another one opens. You stated that you didn't really like it there, so the powers that be took care of that for you. Gave you a chance to find the job that is waiting for you to arrive.

I am so sorry you have lost your job. Many times, the next thing that comes up is so much better that what you had.

There appear to be a lot errors that lead to your firing. Honestly, you should have known what you were returning. The cashier should have checked the old one against the new one. There should have been a paper transaction recorded, for the protection of both of you. I have never returned anything that that didn't involve all of the above.
Good luch in your appeal.

In this economic climate, employers can get rid of employees and have someone else in their place in an instant. Employers know they have the upper hand.
And some people think we don't need regulations to control businesses? If there weren't regulations, how much more advantage would employers take of employees (think child labor, etc)

Woe, that sounds awful! All employers are taking advantage lately I think, but your experience is really bad. I am sorry you have lost your jib - especially over a minor thing like that.
