I was cutting max's nails and I cut the quick. I have never done this before! The syptic powder i had was really old so I had to use corn starch.
It happened about a 1/2 hour ago it's MUCH better than what it was but it's still hasn't stopped bleeding. It's not bleeding as quickly as it was.

I have qauze pads and tape so i'm wrapping his foot now. Anything else? Is it normal for it to bleed for a long time??

Max seems fine but I'm so flustered!!

found this.

Once you put on the powder, apply pressure on the bottom of the nail to clog up the nail and reduce the blood flow. This will take you to actually hold the nail for a few minutes.

Wrap the foot in a soft towel allowing the nail to not touch anything and the blood to clot up and stop bleeding.

Once the blood has stopped, then you will need the dog to stay off the foot for at least 20 minutes. Getting up and prancing around will cause it to start bleeding again. It is recommended to put a bandage on the foot for the rest of the day.

If it continues flowing it might need a vet fix.

I think it's slowing down. Man, i never want to do that again! I shouldn't have kept at it while he was squirmy-I know better than that. Oh well, you live you learn. Tomorrow i'll be out buying a hardy grinder.

I cut into the quick the very first time I tried to do Brooks' nails when he was about 7 mo old and it freaked me so much that I really don't do his. I will think I am going to start trimming just a fraction of an inch off each week but then forget....
So let us know how the grinder works. I might even start a thread on the grinder tool as I have lots of questions about it.
