I do woodworking as a hobby and have named my dogs for different woods. I started with Cedah (Mainer pronunciation of Cedar) then I had Arby (Short for Arborvitae (Latin name for Cedar) then came Oakly (self explanitory) then came Caue. Caue was adopted and that is the name he came with from his previous owner. It means little sun in Amazon Indian. I just kept the same name.

Buzz wasn't Buzz when he came home. He was lots of names that just didn't fit or he wouldn't even respond too. In the yard, he would look for clumps of dead grass, pick them up and he thought he had a 'prize', head up and walking tall. Everytime I'd take the clump from him and one day I said "What are you a Buzzard?" His ears went up and he looked at me. I said, "Buzz" and the same reaction. So he was Buzz from then on. It fits him to a T!
Clover's name came from her registred name 'Crimson and Clover'. (60's music theme)

Lucky came with his name. I personally still can not get used to it. I just do not think he looks like a Lucky. I usually call him pumpkin butt. Which works PERFECTLY now because we started a food trial and did 1 ybsp of pumpkin. Dave left the can of pumpkin out and Luck ate the WHOLE can! (Starting food trial next week).

I love the name misty btw.

Oh jeez, I think you're right, he was Hunnicut. Oh well, most of that, if not all was filmed before my time anyway, lol. I just think mike Ferrell has a charming smile.

We named him Finn after Huck Finn. I also liked Sawyer, but my husband didn't. Fin in French(it doesn't sound the same) mean "the end". We got him Dec. 31, the end of the year. We thought that was kind of cool.

Tucker (bridge kid) - got his name when he was 7weeks old. His first vet appt. he fell asleep. They had to wake him up to check his heart. So he was all tuckered out.

Tanner - came from the movie the bad news bears - he was the little blonde kid that liked to fight all the time.

Cooper - our newest addition got his name from a minor league stadium here in columbus that my husband and myself used to go to all the time. They have since relocated the stadium and renamed it - so he got Cooper.

Molson.... well, I like beer. :D

haha.. ok, that and... he came with the name from the breeder already. I wanted to name him either Romeo, or something along the lines of alcohol or cars (my boyfriend is really into cars). When we brought him home, we realized we loved his name and it suit him so we kept it!

My 2 previous family dogs, Skokie and Skoker, were named after the region where our cottage is, "Muskoka". We loved Skokie so much and she was taken from us way too young (4.5 yrs old), so when we brought Skoker home a few weeks later, we used pretty much the same name for him!

My husband goes by Lucky so I am not allowed to name a dog that!
His real name is one of those southern ones that is just for "show"

Copper is named after a dog that was used as a sire when goldens were originally being developed (according to a book I was reading when I rescued him).

I had Chance then too. He was named after the golden in Homeward Bound. Someone told me much later that I got the name wrong.

C'est la vie. I am senile and not real creative. Names give me fits.

DH had two requirements for a name... had to end in an ee sound and be two syllables. I wanted a girly, but adventurous sounding name. At first it was Daisy, but we thought that was maybe too girly (I'm more of a tomboy myself). Then I thought of Lucy and it was a hit! And does it ever suit our little girl!

Her registered name is Arcane Turn Up That RockNRoll. Had to have Turn and Arcane in it. DH is really into music and we thought it'd fit with Lucy. As in the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky or BB King's guitar. I guess when BB King was younger, he was playing in an all black club and they used barrels with oil in them to heat the place. Well a fight broke out and knocked the barrel over, setting the place on fire. He got out safely, but then realized he had left his guitar inside. He ran back in to save his guitar and barely made it out again. He later found out that the fight had broken out over a girl named Lucille! He then named his guitar that to remind himself never to do something so stupid again. I'm not so sure I like the story that goes with BB King, but it's neat to have a bit of background. I guess one way of looking at it is, he was willing to do anything to save "Lucille". ;)

Tinkerbell was named by my 10 year old daughter and she had been planning for 3 years for me to get her a golden puppy that she was going to name Tinkerbell (good thing we got a female). We had planned on calling her Tink and for the first 3 days we had her we did. But she never responed to it. I was talking to a friend and said something about Tinkerbell using hte full name and she came running over. So we tried it again. "Tink" she just sat there, "Tinkerbell" she came running, so that it is.

We picked Timber for his name before we even knew which puppy we were getting.
The kennel he came from is StormyNights and his registered name
had to either have the word cold in it or infer the cold so his full name is
StormyNights Shiver Me Timbers :)
