So my 15 week old pup loves to chase and retrieve, but the problem is wehn she brings in the toy seh wants to then play tug. So I want to teach her to drop things. What is the best way to go about it? She is really a quick learner as she already knows sit, stay, laydown, dance, circles, and shake. So I don't think it will be too hard, but any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yup, I agree with Rob. Teaching "trade" will come in handy in lots of situations, especially when they have something in their mouth they shouldn't!

I agree with the other two. Trading for a yummy treat will go so far in training. Even with other tricks and training.

often just out-waiting them works too...if she is shoving toys in your hands (try to resist reaching out for the toy)....hold the edge of the toy, dont say anything and just wait....the second she gets bored and relaxes her grip...have a happy-party and thennnnn play with the toy...tease her a bit and give it a short toss...

Before you know it she will make the connection that the best part of the game is when she surrenders the object...
bring toy to hand...release ....then have a party/play...repeat
