A friend is having problems with his Golden doing his business in the house.
He is let out regularly. Appears to be healthy. Gets very little exercise and stimulation though.
What are the reasons for this boy doing his business in the house and what are the remedies?

How old is the dog? Is he using a crate to train him? If he isn't I would highly suggest he start crate training. The dog shouldn't have time alone where he is free to roam.

What is he doing now to try and correct the problem? How old is the dog and does he have any health issues?

If this is new behavior...get thee to a vet to rule out a health problem...

If not new...
Clean the accidents with a product like Natures Miracle.
Retrain the dog as though he were a puppy...frequent scheduled potty breaks and restricted access in the house.
Get thee butt of the couch and play with the dog!

Yes. My first reactions to this problem were: exercise your dog, and change his food. This golden's skin was black.
