I agree with Pg and Dustyrd2.. Hootie had a hot spot and when we shaved the area green pus was oozing from it... I used the listerine and gold bond and within 48 hours the green pus was gone and the hot spot was starting to scab over.

lick granuloma - that is a new term that I am going to have to look up.....when you say it can become habitual is that because she is inclined to keep licking and irritating it.

So the Goldbond would help with any fungal aspect - correct?

We have been to the vet twice.

The first time was 2 weeks ago and he thought it may be ringworm but did the black light test and saw nothing, and was more inclined to think something had just irritated it and told us to watch it - at that time it was not half this bad. We tried Benadryl during this time but she kept licking....but like I said she is VERY licky on everyone and this is putting it mildly.

We went back last Thursday for a toe recheck and also I noticed some blood in the urine that AM (it has been a tough couple weeks) and he gave us Clavamox 375mg for the UTI and he said this would also help with the foot. He did the black light test on the foot again and did not think it was ringworm. At that point he said he thought it was a hot spot and he gave us the Gentamicin spray to use on her 3-4 times per day.

Abbie licks when she is bored, I have never let it get that far and spray 1/2 bitter apple and absorbine jr, and it works she wont touch her paws with that on it... Another great tip from Pg

Belle is the same - licks when bored. We boarded her for a 3 days at the beginning of November and 3 days at the end of November and I think that is when she was doing it as when we picked her up the 2nd time is the same day we had the vet look at it for the 1st time (2 weeks ago).

So now that I have this issue - I probably do not want to use the Absorbin Jr and Bitter Apple as this will just sting - correct? Instead do the Goldbond?? I am willing to try everything in alternating patterns I am just desperate to get by girl better and I feel terrible that she is in this situation.

Gentamicin is an excellent product, and does contain steroid (betamethasone) so you don't want her to ingest it. It is particularly useful for bacterial infections. If you've been using it this long without results, I'd certainly try the Listerine/Gold Bond combo to see if you can break the cycle of her licking it, in order to give it a chance to heal. Gold Bond is effective on fungus. Your vet might want to culture it to see if there is yeast, in which case miconozole might be indicated.
Lick granulomas, common on the digits (toes) are so easily licked that it can become a habit for the dog to do so. Some dogs actually start them by licking the feet out of boredom. Prozac is often prescribed for dogs who cannot be broken of the habit. Keeping her busy in order to distract her from the licking is important. Offering her something else to do with her mouth, such as a raw beef bone, might help.

Abbies wasnt as raw and pink but the skin was showing and I did put it on there. You could spray it around the area, Abbie doesnt even like the smell.

We just started the Gentamicin on Thursday.....it has helped, but as you can see from the pic I just took she is still licking some. I catch her licking like at 2AM in bed when she thinks I am not watching.

Wounds on the feet like this are especially difficult because they're so accessible to licking. I think once you prevent her from licking it, you're going to have more success with whatever you decide to use.

Can you try the cone for a couple of days? Especially at night when you're sleeping? I really do think in this case that could be key.
