this is the method I use
sometimes if the image you want to use is to large I use http://www.shrinkpictures.com/
to change Avatar
click on UserCP left hand side of your screen 3rd box down (Settings & Options). click on Edit Avatar, next click on Browse (option 2) and search your computer for a photo of your, choice lastly click Save Changes

Thanks again....of course all our pics are on our other hard drive (computer got fried..and we have yet to retrieve our pics)
But...I put the newest one in of our two boys
A little background on the "boys"....our son is 10 now, he was 8 when we got Riko....on his 7th birthday we got him a 4-wheeler, he saw it accidentally....and was very sad....dad wanted to know why, it was okay he saw his gift, but he was so sad....he said "I wanted a puppy"....
So, the following fall we decided it was time for a puppy, it had been 7 years since we lost our last dog and it was just too heartbreaking for us, so we took a break...we also have kids who are very involved in sports, so time was an issue as well....
October comes and it's time to pick up Riko...we said we were going to run to do an errand and would be right back, in the time we were gone our ENTIRE family showed up (they all knew).
We got home, put Riko into the doorway and let him just walk into the house....our daughter who was 16 at the time cried she was so happy, our son was sort of like "oh, a puppy", he didn't seem to excited.....we asked why and he said "I wanted a hamster"
OMG....well, I'm happy to say our 88 lb "hamster" and our son are BEST FRIENDS.....he says he was so wrong in wanting another hamster.....he can't imagine life without his "brother"!

We did the "we need to get an external hard drive" for months...then POOF during a storm...THANKFULLY we didn't lose everything though....it's there, just hard to transfer over as we had so many permissions on it! We'll get to it.....
