Hello i was just wondering if anyone can help.....i have a golden retriever pup and he is 6 1/2 mths old. His nose was a lovely black colour but has recently changed to a pinky/brown colour, is this common & does anyone know why? He has not been ill & seems well in himself.

Thank you if anyone can reply,

Shannon

It does happen....we like Chesters pink nose. I think one of my Golden books calls it snow nose. Chesters nose is a bit dark in the summer but gets pinker in the winter. He is only 2...and happen his first winter.

Shannon, it is called snow nose and happens to dogs who don't have super deep pigment. The lightening towards pink is dependent on the amount of sunlight, so don't be surprised if the black returns in late spring and summer, when there is more and stronger sunshine.

I'm surprised my Bailey doesn't have snow nose. I saw a picture of Bailey's parents and they both have the pigment changes in their nose.

Gunner's nose started to get lighter once he hit five. It's still black but with tinges of brown/pink.
Selka is ten and his nose is getting alittle lighter. They both had very black noses for years so don't know if it's a lack of vitamin d or what. We try to get lots of sunshine. : )

I've never heard of snow nose before.
Vitaligo, yes. A friend has an Old English Sheepdog with it - suddenly occurred at age 6. She tried Vitamin B with no improvement.
