Hello I'm just introducing myself to the group, I have 3 golden retrievers at home; Lily who is 12, Christa who is 6 months and iley who is one week younger. Iley is my very first puppy of my own with the others family dogs who are owned by my parents. I love them all dearly, my little iley has a liver shunt and I'm trying to work out what to do for her for the best. After lots of tests and vet trips her diagnosis lead to an ultra sound scan which found the shunt was on the outside of her liver and I was referred to a specialist across the country. They almost recommended surgery however during the operation they discovered her shunt is on the inside of the liver ( I wish I'd known then that ultrasounds are not 100% or that great for viewing shunts) and going ahead with surgery was too risky so they closed her up, she stayed at the vets a few nights due to a slight haemorrhage and she is going t be medically managed and they have suggested thinking about keyhole surgery that is through her neck in the future but this is very new, very costly and not wildly performed in the uk so I am after any help or information anyone may like to share.

Welcome. I'm sorry about Iley, but hope something can be done. I confess I know nothing about the condition, but keep us advised on what's going on and send some pictures as we love to see them.
