Welcome to the forum! There's lot of great info here so I encourage you to take a look around!

While you wait for others to chime in with recommendations, you may want to read this blog post and watch this video to start your education on what makes an ethical breeder. There's probably a slight US slant, but most will be relevant to Canadian breeders as well. :)

Come on guys… the poor OP is brand new and has no idea what your comments are about. Let’s try to be helpful.

@melons the comments are in relation to your saying you want a “blockheaded” Golden. Although most of us know what you are referring to, most of us on the forum support the breeding of Goldens that closely resemble the breed standard as outlined by the breed club (the GRCA here in the states and the GRCC in Canada). Here is the breed standard for Goldens in Canada: https://grcc.net/standard/

When you say you want a “blockhead” Golden, it makes us wonder if you want a dog that looks more like a Great Pyrenees than a Golden.

First and foremost, I assume you want a healthy golden from a reputable breeder. If that’s true, then such a breeder will be breeding to the breed standard. That said, I believe most “conformation (“show”) breeders will be producing dogs who will make you happy. Keep in mind however, that putting something as superficial as head appearance on the top of your wish list may artificially reduce the number of breeders available to you.

Hopefully someone will hop on soon who can give you some suggestions on breeders to start with!

thanks Lisa- yeah, I hate that term- so OP in case other breeders out there feel equally as bothered by 'blockhead' as a descriptor that has no place in our breed, I'd leave that off when you make inquiries. Most conformation breeders do have boys who are what I believe you are trying to describe as a physical attribute instead of what 'blockhead' actually means, which is stupid!

Good morning @melons! Looks like no one has yet had a chance to hop on and give you any suggestions, so I did a little research this morning and it looks like you have a Golden Retriever club right in Winnipeg! home.htm

They have a breeders list on their website which will be your best starting point on your search. Even if those breeders don’t have breeding plans, they’ll know who in your area is reputable and may be able to give you some leads.

Omg I apologize I did not mean to offend anyone! It was just a term I saw while researching. Sorry!

I'm sorry to you @melons. I wanted to write this apology to you yesterday after Lisa's comment. Sometimes I forget that we all started somewhere. Myself included - I'm very new to the breed and still understanding the issues and terms associated with the breed. Definitely not my finest moment here 🤦🏽‍♀️ I really hope you stick around in the forum and you find the golden retriever you're looking for.. 😊

I’m not picking (so no apology needed!) — just being funny:

Vertebrate Cartoon Happy Mammal Organism

People are always telling me Logan has such a nice headpiece. I don’t speak in correct terms myself and I remember initially thinking I liked Goldens with more square heads. Obviously, their heads are not square. Charlie Brown’s is round. :ROFLMAO:

I hope you are able to find a healthy, happy, and beautiful puppy from an ethical breeder.
