She is just a BEAUTY!
My Henry is 1 1/2 now but I still read the puppy section as I still get tips and love to see how all the puppies are doing. This forum was a life saver for me, having a golden was really something new. If you read the new posts it is a lot about "do I have an agressive dog?", as they do use their teeth. Henry was a real land shark, but is now the gentlest of dogs. I can only say that positive rewarding for everything and watching out for the good behaviours even when not training and rewarding them forms such a bond. I have no oportunity of puppy school here, but have socialised him from puppyhood here with neighbouring dogs (a lot of them run free on the road) which has really paid off, as now the grown german shepherd, boxers or whatever are no threat as they have known each other from puppyhood. All the training I have had to do on my own and would have been lost without this forum. At first I used to try too to just take things out of his mouth, then we learnt the trading - which makes it so much easier and more fun, it becomes a game rather than a struggle, and it is trust forming. Redirecting instead of no, is also more positive for both sides. It sounds easy but as everyone has said time and practice and patience and taking a deep breath helps. I'm so glad that after her bad experience your wife realises she is just a baby, they grow so fast that one sometimes forgets how young they are.
