My name is actually a joke - I live in North Texas, but I am not from here. I prefer to tell everyone that I live in Baja Oklahoma. It's catching on with some of my friends.

I've been lurking awhile and finally decided it was time to join.
I have three skin kids, the youngest will be getting her Masters next Spring. I married my husband to get his Old English Sheepdog - seriously. It wokrd out as we've been married for 33 years. Gee, I'm old.

Bennett, our 11 year old Golden, passed away on August 10th. We had a roller coaster 4 days of not knowing what was going on - seizure, stroke, solid tumor in the abdomen and finally they decided it was lymphoma. The spleen rupturing was the first indicator. We opted for surgery, thinking it would buy him 6 months to a year of quality life. He did not bounce back and we had to make the decision that was best for him. We had an amazing connection and I will always miss him.
We have 2 Old English Sheepdogs, in full coat :), along with 2 cats. And visiting cats and dogs belonging to my children.

I am starting the hunt for another Golden. I am open to a puppy and rescue, both have pluses. I may go with our previosu breeder, or not. Timingwise, I would like to get our next Golden in late Spring or early Summer when I am home more.

We have an agility club in our area that has 2 training courses less than a mile from our house. With our kids out of sports, this is something I would like to do.

TIA for all of the information and help I will be getting here.

HI and welcome!! I am so sorry for the loss of your Golden, Bennett. Alot of us here on the forum know what you went and are going through. Its just heartbreaking. I hope you find a sweet puppy when you are ready so you have another golden in your life! We love pictures here and when you are ready, we would love to see some pictures of Bennett and of course of your Old English Sheep dogs and your cats! ;)

Welcome from Maryland! I'm a new member myself, just joined about a week or so ago. I'm so sorry to hear about your beloved Bennett. We are going through the same thing right now with our almost 11 yr. old Rusty. He started having seizures and after doing blood tests, xrays and an ultrasound it was determined he has hemangio. Our vet did not recommend the surgery, she didn't think he would survive it given the condition of the spleen. Tomorrow will be two weeks since the diagnosis and it's been a roller coaster for us too. Some days you wouldn't even know he was sick and then it's downhill for a day or so. It's so hard to know what to do, on the days he's down we think this is the day we have to make the decision but then he bounces back and we are glad we held off for a little bit. I know the day will come when he will let us know for sure, until then we are giving him lots of love and spoiling him rotten.

I am so glad to hear you are thinking about another Golden Baby for your family. We will eventually bring another one into our home as well when the time is right.

Welcome!
Kevin and I lost our Golden Mitchell in early August to Hemangio. We miss him very much. I do believe we will be getting a new puppy very soon. The search is on and I know Mitchell would want us to be loving another dog.
A house is not a home without a Golden!
Stay strong and good luck. We will keep you in our prayers.

Thank you all for your warm welcome. Bennett was our 3rd Golden - much smarter than our Sheepie girls.
They all used to get on our old furniture. The girls were hogging the sofa one day. Ben walked in the living room, looked at the girls, turned around and walked to the dining room window (great view of the street) and barked like crazy. The girls jumped up and ran to the window, barking like mad, as Ben walked over to sofa and spread out. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

I love Goldens.

They really are smart dogs, that's for sure! What a cute story and one of the many reasons I love Goldens so much!
