Hi! I finally decided to join this forum today because I am considering a Golden in the future and wanted to read up. It'll probably be years before I can have a dog, so for now I'm just trying to learn as much as I can now so I can at least be somewhat prepared! (besides, it's fun to learn about it!)

Welcome to the forum! It's never too soon to start learning as much as you can about something you are interested in :) Goldens are terrific dogs, they need lots of exercise and obedience training when they are young. Be sure and read all the 'stickies' at the top of the 'finding a breeder/puppy" board. When you're ready for your dog, you will be ahead of the game already knowing about how important clearances are and breeders who compete with their dogs. Hope you enjoy the forum...

Welcome to the forum.

Feel free to post any questions you may have, we have many members that are very knowledgeable and experienced. Members are always willing to help.

There's a Search feature also, you can do a search for a particular topic, a list of threads discussing it will come you can go through.

The Golden Retriever Club of America is a very good source of information, there's a Puppy Referral. You can search for Breeders by Region or State. Here are the links:

Thanks for the welcomes, everybody!

I've been reading up on dogs for a few months now, and it's been really useful! I didn't know I was that clueless about them o_o Goldens weren't really one of my initial choices, but after checking out my childhood dream breeds (GSD, Dobe, Husky), I figured that they might not be a good fit for a newbie like me. I basically narrowed it down to either Beagle or Golden, and well...here I am.

Till I'm able to get my own dog, I'm just reading and hopefully I'll start my volunteer work at the local shelter so I can have a bit more experience just being with dogs!

There are several Golden Retriever Rescues in TN, not sure if you are close to one.

You might want to consider Volunteering with one if you are-this would be a great opportunity for you to work with Goldens and learn more about them.

Here is a list of the GR Rescues in TN, click on their name, the webiste and contact info will be given.

Adopt a Golden Knoxville
Heartland Golden Retriever Rescue
Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue
Middle Tennessee Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc.
