Guidance on Breeders Requested

Hello,
We have owned Goldens for 37 years and 2 at once for 22 of those years.
We lost our Maggie in December and are looking for an adult dog as a companion for our 8yo male, Tucker. We would prefer 4 years or younger. We would consider a rescue but ones near us in SE Virginia require a physical fence and we have an invisible fence.
Meanwhile, we would like to contact any breeders you may mention that may have an adult become available, yes I know it's not often.
I am willing to drive 500 miles from our home to visit a breeder.
Thank you for any responses that you submit.
Jim G.

Have you seen this thread? It may give you a good start on finding an ethical breeder: USA Ethical Breeder List
The folks I have seen successfully, within a reasonable amount of time, get an older, well behaved and vetted dog send out basically resumes- to all the breeders in their area- and start with 'please keep this in case you hear of an older dog'.... and actually, I remember one couple coming to the Savannah shows with printed resumes and meeting every Golden person they could. I happen to know of the dog they got- it was less than a week before someone passed their info along and the whole ' they look so nice!' spiel! It was so refreshing, when they got ready for the NEXT dog, prob 7-8 years later, and reached out to me, I recognized the style of their letter and asked had I met them @ Savannah show and didn't they get a dog then, they were happy they'd made an impression- said that dog had just gotten a poor prognosis so they wanted to go on and get another so he could know they'd be fine when he left them. It was just super sweet. And I dk if they got a dog that time, but I hope so.
