I am so excited for you and Riley!!!
What a relief this must be for you to know you can have this done again and not stress your boy, and you, out!!!
And good for you for leaving the sedation route as a last resort :)

I'm glad you found your Kathy Wilson! I hope you remember why I mention this name. She was an Angel for my son.
I do remember. :) I'm just surprised that we found 'her' so quickly. I figured we'd have to look long and hard to find someone who could do it.

I really have to think of something for the techs, to thank them. They probably do this everyday and might not realize what a huge step this was for Riley and how much I appreciate it.

Good for Riley and you. Luckily as of now I don't have that problem however many years ago we had a poodle who was traumatized when it was time for the nail clipping. It was an awful time.

Some people just have that special way about them and it sounds like you found them:)

It is truly amazing, isn't it. Out walked this woman, she spoke to him, and he just did what he had to do. He continued doing well with her for many years as he had blood drawn every few months. He was diagnosed at the age of 6 with Grave's disease. I hope the same goes for you and Riley forever!!!

Fortunately, I just don't have the nerves for it. lol. The thought of it worried me way too much! Especially since she was planning to sedate him without doing any bloodwork ahead of time to check his liver and kidney function. I always thought that was pretty standard procedure, so it just didn't sit right with me.

Riley's the first one I've ever had a problem with when it comes to nails, so this is new ground for me. But yeah, it really is awful to see your dog so scared and stressed out by something like that.

I'm hoping that this will be a good building block for us. Now that he's had it done and found out that it's not a big deal, hopefully we can keep working with him and really get somewhere now. (Not getting my hopes up too high, but it would be nice!)

LOL. I was joking with the tech and said "Okay, you must have slipped him something, right?" She swore she didn't. :p:

Honestly, just the fact that he was giving kisses to a stranger and taking treats from strangers was enough to shock me. The fact that he was doing that after they had just done the thing he hates most in the world had me completely flabergasted.
I don't know what it is about these women, but Riley sure liked them.

Mom and I were talking about it last night and we decided that maybe there's just something about our (now previous) vet that Riley doesn't like. He does give her that 'stay away from me' stare the minute we walk in and she's never done anything bad to him, so I don't get it. I like her, but maybe he just doesn't. He's probably a better judge of character than I am, anyway, so I'll listen to him.
