Hello! I am new here and I am in the process of researching breeders (about to put a deposit down soon on a female)...so much to learn! I live in Manhattan (Chelsea) and was wondering if anyone can recommend dog-related fun/essentials in the city (parks, vets, etc..)

NYC is a very fun place for dogs! We just moved out recently but Jake loved every minute of it and gets very excited whenever we take trips back in! We lived in the East Village, so unfortunately I don't know too much in your area. However, I have heard positive things about West Chelsea Veterinary, but never used them personally as it was too far for us. Another place to look into is Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists - they have 24 hour emergency vet care. Again, I have not used them personally but its on 5th Ave btwn 15 & 15th streets.

Central Park can be great if you can get to it with the dog...they have off leash hours before 9am and after 9pm. You can also look into ball fields in your area, some of them allow dogs off leash in the winter time. Also Prospect Park in Brooklyn has off leash hours and a lake that the dogs can swim in during certain times.

I know a great doggie day care (again, east village, sorry) but they are also a great place if you ever need to board your dog overnight for any reason. It's called Paws and Relax. They have indoor/outdoor play areas and cage free boarding with 24 hour supervision. Whoever is working overnight sleeps on an air mattress with all the dogs in the play area. They have pictures on their website you can see. The owners and staff are great there.

Bumping up for NYC owner!:wavey:

We live on LI, can't give much info about city. But my boss owns a golden, and she goes to Central park every morning~ I do believe before 9am, the park is off-leash for dogs (when yours is trained).

ASPCA hospital is on 92nd street 2nd ave, and Humane society is on 1st ave.
