Lila was born on June 10, 3 days earlier than expected. Two of her littermates were born in the back of my van!

Beautiful!

We are first time dog owners. Our first puppy class is OCt 1 - and so far with treats Ladoo will sit and go down - but when he is playful (and biting) it doesnt work at all. How is your training going? I hope we haven't left it too late.

Also, what do you do when playing with him? I used to kick a ball or bucket or whatever he is attracted to at that time in the garden. But right now (since he is biting a lot especially when excited) - we let him out in the garden alone - but i sit and watch him and when he is calm we cuddle and i tickle his tummy and he likes following me around the house of lazing around when i am doing chores. We walk 2 or 3 times a day which is always fun. Sometimes he sits in the middle of the journey and NOTHING gets him moving. (not even treats).

Would love to know what your experiences have been like so far.
Thanks!

Woody is also very mouthy right now, especially when he's tired or hungry. We're redirecting him with chew toys and wet dish towels, torn into strips, tied in a knot, and frozen. He isn't deterred by a stern Ah Ah anymore, and ignoring him seems to challenge him to bite more to get our attention. We use his crate for a quick timeout when he gets too wound up and that settles him really quickly. He starts obedience classes next week but we started working on the basic commands when we brought him home so he has a pretty reliable recall, sit, down, and he's progressing with sit-stay and down-stay. We walk him 2 or 3 times a day, for about 10 or 15 minutes and he plays in the yard with his balls and rope toys. I'm amazed at how quickly he gets bored with his toys. My husband thinks I'm spoiling him because I keep buying new ones, but I'm looking for something to keep his attention for more than a few minutes. So far the empty plastic coffee container is his favorite so I guess I could give Amazon a break.

Lana was born 6/1. Can't believe she'll be 16 weeks this friday. Where has the time gone?

Her @ 8 weeks old:

This is her around 14 weeks I believe

She is growing into such a beautiful girl. I am more and more enthralled with her each day. She has been a gem. Even in the shenanigans. She is reasonably gentle (much more now that she's started losing teeth!!). She lost her first two front teeth last Saturday (the 8th) and bottom front tooth some time at week. She like to climb on my lap and chew on my hand, her favorite is when she gnaws on my knuckle down in the molar space where no tooth currently is. She plays really well with Gypsy. She's almost Gypsy's size now.

Training is going well. She knows sit. We're still working on down, stand, up, off, leave it, touch, come. We do a game called "Where's Lana!?" which is our informal version of come. When she comes running to me, I lean down and go "there she is!!!!" and we play for a bit before she gets to go back to whatever she was doing. She is really a great dog. I know I want to pull my hair out sometimes but overall this has been the easiest dog I've ever raised (haha it's only been 8 weeks, I know I still have a long ways to go).

Thanks jadvisryan for sharing where you are with your pup. It helps to see how behind I am. :)

I can't wait for the time when i can cuddle up to him and he wont bite. He really does think that biting is showing love - so i need to learn how to show him that it totally is not. something for me to ask the trainer about. He is a lovely good natured dog. He hasn't been alone at all since we got him. Next week i need to go into the office 2 times - so I am training him this week by sitting upstairs for longer periods. But I am convinced he knows that I am here.

He loves playing in the garden, but our trainer told us not to leave him there for more that 10 mins as there are too many distractions - but when the weather is good i do leave it longer and sit there with him or keep an eye on him while I am cooking.

Brave is a cutey. She still looks puppy-like. LAddo - born on the same day - looks all grown up now.

With the pink toy was about 10 weeks; the other is 14 weeks.

Ladoo has is first puppy socialising class on Wednesday - this photo was so cute. Who’s bigger than who between the three of them.

All other pups were small and feisty. Ladoo was shy and worried at first and then got stuck in. Fell a lot with all the excitement. And then the next day he pretty much slept the whole day. Looking forward to next week!

Lana graduated puppy class today and earned her AKC STAR PUPPY. Yay!

She is 16 weeks old and weighs 31 lbs. She met a 4 month old pot belly pig (piglet?) And experienced her first drive thru car wash (yay for bread as a high value reward cause she got spooked with some of the loud side brushes).

Happy Autumn! Woody celebrated his 4 month birthday at the pumpkin patch and received lots of attention, which he loved. He weighs 32 lbs and has a good sized stripe of big boy fur down his back. He’s doing great with his obedience work and is so much better with the nippy bitey play. We’re totally besotted with him and think he’s the best thing ever, even when he’s wearing us out.

Woody turns 6 months old this week and his first half-year has flown by. We just love his laid back personality and calm temperament. He’s got an independent streak and isn’t a Velcro dog so far, but he’s so sweet and gentle. He does great on the leash, great in the car, and isn’t destructive around the house. Our Christmas tree has been up for a week and so far he’s pretty much ignored it.

Our current challenges - he wants to eat every stick in the yard, so last week he was pooping wood chips (yikes!). He’s recently “forgotten” his stay command, and he’s still kind of mouthy, mostly when he’s hungry or overstimulated. In obedience class he’s either the star pupil or the class clown, depending on his mood and energy level. He’s gotten so big but doesn’t seem to know his own size. He’s always trying to squeeze into spaces that will no longer hold him.

He’s been such an easy puppy, I’m hoping he’s not a stinker as an adolescent. So far, so good!
