Trying to cover all my bases with finding a reputable golden breeder in the Ohio/ Pa area .. We will be looking for a pup somewhere around August . We would prefer a “ American golden, not English cream. Any information would be so appreciated! My 5 yr. old Sam is needing a buddy . 😁

Can you tell us what you've done so far for research? Have you looked at GRCA.org for the clubs in that region and the puppy referral contacts? Have you looked up those clubs on facebook or started looking at any shows in your area? Have you tried going to a local show to see dogs in person?

As far as shows go, I’ve not been aware of any around me, not to mention I work a daily job that includes Saturdays. If the shows were
On a Sunday then it would be a possibility. Do you know of a good breeder in Ohio? Thx for your time. Have a good day

The thread I posted above lists over a dozen reputable breeders in Ohio, as well as four breed clubs that should have a breeder/litter referral. That's the best place to start. Note that the list provided will not include every reputable breeder in Ohio... there are likely others, and if you find one you think is a possibility, we're happy to take a look and help you confirm that the breeder you are considering is following the code of ethics.

Just to control your expectations.... Most ethical breeders have a list of approved homes before they even breed, and if you want a puppy to come home in mid-August, those pups are likely already on the way (to be born in mid-June). Usually, the time before being "accepted" for a puppy (from an ethical breeder) and bringing the puppy home is upwards of six months. That's not to say you won't get lucky... sometimes an approved home has to back out at the last minute, or the breeder has more puppies than expected, but if you really want to get a puppy on your time frame, you are already late in the game so I'd start reaching out NOW.

Sounds like you are on the other side of Ohio. There's a golden specialty in Cincinnati this weekend.
The link pawsnpaca provided is a good start. Also contact the person in the link below.

I take it your response means that you haven't done any of those things. Some of the bigger shows will actually run Thursday thru Sunday, you might also see what kind of social events the Golden clubs are holding while the weather is nice. Networking and word of mouth can be a very successful way to track down a nice litter. I have a dear friend who breeds occasionally, she met a woman attending a show to look at Goldens, they really hit it off and my friend put this lady on her short puppy list for her upcoming litter because of it and now the lady trains with her. A lot of serious hobby breeders are pretty amazing humans and just want to make sure their puppies are placed in a home with someone they trust. It is worth the time and effort to meet people, and a lot of good people who don't breed often can be a good resource for litters that aren't really advertised. Expanding your search area outside of Ohio would really help with meeting your timeline. You're actually late in your search for a puppy to come home in August. The dogs would have to be bred already.

Yep. Which typically draws a lot of breeder/owner handlers from southern MI, OH, and western PA. This would be a good place to show up if you can to see the dogs and meet people.

^^^ I won't be there (need to stay more local), but I know a lot of people who go to this show.

2-3 people in particular - I know have pups in the works.
