hey guys, i have a 10.5 months male golden and he is generally doing very well. However, he does have 2 problems.

1. He does leash pulling since he was little, so i started using gentle leader since he was 5 months old. he is doing great on gentle leader with no pulling at all. however, when switching back to normal collar, he still pulls the leash as before!!! Since i found that using a gentle leader actually leaves a "mark" on his face (does any of your dogs have the same "mark" problem when using a gentle leader?) i want to use normal collar again, so i was wondering if there is any good ideas / options on this?

2. He is not a barker at all but recently he started to bark at other dogs... he actually barks to all dogs that comes to him or walks pass by... it is really annoying and i don't know what to do...

Also, he tend to chase every single car drives pass by him and this is annoy too... he is getting bigger and bigger, i can't even control him properly when he pulls the leash and tries to chase the car!

what shall i do with his barking and chasing problem?

thanks a lot!

I use a Sporn no-pull harness for my freight train puller. I like the fact that is fits loosely unless he pulls, so it's comfortable and doesn't rub. I also like the fact that he steps into it rather than trying to snap it closed with a wiggly puppy and all that fur in the way.

I tried an Ez-walk harness but it's fitted and I had trouble with it rubbing behind Hank's front legs. I had also tried the Gentle Leader with my last golden and Hank but didn't have much luck keeping their heads off the ground. The Sporn changed his pulling behavior the first time he wore it. I don't see any reason to go back to a flat collar only.

I just tried the sporn this week since Chloe really hates her halti. I found that she did ok on our first walk, but once she got used to the sensation of the sporn harness, she just pulled and ignored it. VERY Frustrating. The store took it back no questions asked. I have her back on her Halti for regular walks, which she hates. I do try to take it off half way through once she is calmed down and try her on her flat collar. If she starts to pull, the halti goes back on. Chloe is almost 11 months and over 70lbs, so I feel your pain about the pulling (literally!). I'm just trying to stay consistent and not let her walk in front of me, pull me or otherwise have bad leash manners. It's trying, but I refuse to give up.

good luck
L.
