Frustration

Prior to getting Seamus from a breeder we applied with a local golden retriever rescue to get a dog. We were approved but could not find a match unfortunately. As Seamus is now 2 and has calmed down quite a bit (thank God!), we applied again but this time to foster. Thought it might help the rescue out as well as giving me another dog in the hosue :smile2:

I was honest on the application that Seamus was not neutered and why. Keeping him intact until at least 2 years of age and then, after consultation with our vet, keeping him intact because he was NEVER near female dogs.

Well, I received a letter that "we cannot consider you because your dog is not neutered".

So, this is me venting. Is this common? I realize rescues are very aggressive in their spay/neuter beliefs but I was stunned. I just wanted to help.

Are all rescues like this?

Yes, it's normal. I can't even take my dog to events organized by some of our local rescues (e.g. craft fairs) because he's not neutered. They won't let him on the premises. I no longer do photo booths for rescues because I can't take my dog along.

Have they not read all the stuff that says that it is better for them to be left intact??? Rhetorical question..... But, thanks!

Since your applying to foster I can see their point as a dog may come in unaltered and they would not be able to place them in your home in case of breeding or potentially fighting.
