Hi, All -
I really appreciate all of the info I've received on this forum over the last month and a half since we've had our puppy, Max. I've used it extensively to research food choices, socialization, and our puppy's diarrhea (which is thankfully over!).
Max is 14 weeks old and we picked him up from a breeder at 8 weeks. The last few weeks have really tested our patience with his biting. I sit here now with fresh blood on my hand from his sharp little razor teeth. We have tried to be consistent with ignoring and leaving the room after one of his hard bites, but often it is difficult because of how hard he latches on, whether it is to flesh or clothes.
When he bites onto flesh (or my jeans, or my shoes) he will often not let go. Trying to pull away usually results in harder biting and growling. I've noticed that it almost exclusively happens at home. When we're out trying to socialize him he is all licks and affection to both us and strangers that want to say hi.
I guess I'm looking for reassurance that this is a phase and that he is not an aggressive dog. Whether it is a phase or not, or aggression or not, I would appreciate any suggestions for helping him learn that it's not okay. Are there methods that users on this forum have tried that worked well? How old was your golden puppy when he learned that biting hurts?
Thanks all. Any advice would be appreciated!
