It does seem ridiculous to be pissed off at an insurance company for acting like......well, an insurance company.
DO NOT ENROLL IN HEALTHY PAWS!!! You are better off investing or saving the money in a separate account for use in an emergency. We have a 9-year old HEALTHY golden retriever and have been paying the monthly premiums since she was a puppy. We filed one small $50 claim about 7 years ago that went to the deductible. Our monthly rates have increased as our dog aged, which I understand and expected. HOWEVER, they are now $119 a month (double from where we started) and we have NEVER received a payment from Healthy Paws as we have a healthy dog. When I called to ask for a reduction, the representative was very understanding but explained the rates are set only on age of the dog and cost of vet care in our state, and do not take into account the health of the dog or prior claims. So, even though we have no history of claims, our rates went up almost $30 this year. I canceled our policy and promised to post everywhere I could to warn others from giving Healthy Paws thousands of dollars over the lifespan of your dog. Save your money!!!
Someone posted earlier in the thread that insurance companies are in it for the money. They're a business and businesses generally try to operate at a profit......some with enormous markup percentages on their products and services. Veterinary services and costs for medications have skyrocketed in recent years. A $100 per month premium over a 10 yr lifespan for a dog would be $12,000. That's a higher premium than most members here seem to be paying per dog if I recall correctly from other insurance related threads I've seen here lately. That's the price for peace of mind IF your dog gets sick or injured.....well worth it to some, maybe not so much to others. We've payed thousands over 26 yrs for homeowners insurance on our house. I can promise you folks I am NOT upset that my roof hasn't blown off and my house hasn't caught fire yet. I'm actually pretty satisfied to know that IF something catastrophic happens we can get some help. That's what insurance is for......

When there is a conflict, instead of war they should have to dress up like clowns and take a balloon animal-making class. It's like that saying....."Give a man a balloon animal and he's happy for a day. Teach him to make balloon animals and he'll be happy for life." Heck, imagine if balloon animals were currency? Who would need insurance then? If prices go up, just blow up more balloon animals. Of course, that would probably cause the inflation rate to rise.......
If only world leaders dressed like bears and danced there would be less conflict in the world.
