Thanks for the link, Mylissy. My dogs don't go any of those places. One concern also would be the vet's waiting room! I always keep my boys in the car and then we come in through a back door to see the vet. (mainly because of Gunner's anxiety) but hopefully it prevents exposure to sick dogs also. I don't really know how well vets "sanitize" their exam rooms between patients. I think I will ask next time my dogs go in for a routine check.

I got the flu recently from a visit to the dr.( I am assuming, guess it could be from anywhere. ) for an eye injury. The waiting room was full of sick people who were supposed to be wearing masks if they had flu symptoms.

I agree about the waiting room at the vets, as well as the exam rooms and the scales! I take Barkley in every 2 weeks for an anal gland expression and I've been asking them about it a lot--they assure me they clean up and disinfect between dog visits but how do I really know? They get so busy at times things could easily be missed.

I sure hope people who have dogs with the symptoms mentioned keep their dogs home from GRRNT's annual picnic next weekend!

that flu has been around dogs for over 5 years now, and every so often the media picks it up and revives it again. Although I have to wonder if Schering-Plough paid for the story since so many vets are refusing to use the flu vaccination, including my vet. Provisional vaccinations aren't something he's really fond of.
FWIW, the place dogs are most likely to contract something contagious wasn't even mentioned (unless I missed it, I just sort of skimmed the story), and that's the groomers! Not all groomers thoroughly disinfect the drying cages, bathtubs, and grooming tables in between dogs, although of course some do.
