I have a question in regards to feathering. Marley’s feathering behind his legs and bottom is quite long so I was wondering if anyone suggests that we (or a professional) trims it.

Would he be more comfortable that way (especially in the warmer weather)?

Someone here suggested thinning shears for the feathers. I use them quite often now and it has made a huge difference in both Danny and Jasper. First of all, no more poop on the feathers. Danny used to get knots in his because his were really long and stringy, now he doesn't. Jasper's were just so thick that combing them was really difficult, now I can get a comb through them really easily.

I would not trim them with regular scissors, though. They can look really bad if you do that.

I agree with fostermom. Dont cut their hair or shave them for the summer. Their coats help to cool them and warm them according to the weather.

I love the "pants" and tail feathers. I *sometimes* trim a tiny bit, but mostly leave it alone. I brush the feathers as well as the rest of his body everyday so that they don't get tangled and matted and all the stuff he picks up when he rolls around the field is brushed out.
