our sweet little girl has decided to start raiding garbage pails after 5 years.

each tuesday we go out with friends so we bring her to daycare to tire her out. we've done this for several years and not had any problems.

but, over the last few months, when we get home, she's taken stuff out of the garbage or recycle bins and left a big mess.

we're pretty sure it's her reacting / acting out to the changes going on in the house (i'm pregnant. oh, yeah, btw forum, i'm pregnant :curtain: ). we don't yell or hit her or anything like that, i just clean it up and from time to time shake one of the chewed up items in her direction and tell her she's a bad girl. this generally makes her put her paw out towards me and flap it at me, similar to what she does when she wants to be petted.

but, last night takes the cake! i was home, didn't feel well, and she still went "dumpster diving" when i happened to go to the bathroom. i couldn't believe it when i got back to the living room to see her with stuff out of the garbage and on the floor. i was literally gone 2-ish minutes and she knew i was home.

face i made at her ---->:--evil:

has anyone had behavorial problems crop up around a pregnancy? if so, did they go away? get worse?

Sorry you're dealing with this. I can't add anything to the discussion about behavior changes around pregnancy, but I can suggest something to help with the trash situation. I have a Simple Human trash can which I love, love, love. I got it right before I brought home Rookie. It was expensive, but I have never once had to deal with trash strewn around the house.

Me too. I have these trash cans in my bathrooms too. Well worth the investment. They last forever.
Congratulations on the baby. Do we know boy or girl yet? When is it do?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I don't know why she would raid the trash now...but find a good can before you bring the baby home. The first dog my husband and I had found his way into the diaper trash...nasty, fithy and gross !! Good luck. :)

Kimm - you should have stopped in! :)

for those who were curious - it's a boy, due Jan 25th.

and, i should clarify, she seems to be going to cardboard or newspapers and things like that. things she can shread, not necessarily food stuff.

She's nesting!

I didn't realize my doctor's office is right across the street from where the tragedy took place. I knew I was close, but I can throw a ball and hit the building...

Congratulations on the new baby boy. The only thing I could think of with the dumpster diving was get a can with a lid and put a brick on top of it.

I looked at those for when Mitchell and Hailey go into their dumpster diving modes. I figured we would be dead meat as soon as one of them (Hailey) figured out all she had to do was step on the pedal! We actually use the plastic laundry baskets (tall ones) with trash can liners, they come with lids and we bungee cord them closed. It's like dealing with the raccoons outside, except the dogs can't figure out the bungees! :curtain:

Can't believe sweet Faith has turned to dumpster diving. I hope Caue didn't teach her that in New Hampshire. :p:

Not that darling boy! He doesn't have any bad habits... I'm willing to bet that he has been reading GRF when you aren't home!

Congratulations! Jan 25th is right around the corner! Have you picked out a name?

We keep ALL of our trash in cupboards under sinks. (Kitchen and bath.)

Mine cannot resist an available trash can. :)
