Otay, Gilmour is a perfect little pup (well, not so little any more :)) but has one little problem.

He has a teary/staining left eye.

Since his left eye is fine, I will have to assume this is not allergies. He's had it since he was a little pup.

I thought maybe he would grow out of it as his head matured, but at 8.5 months it's actually a little bigger now.

I've heard this is a trait that shows up in the Pebwin line from time to time.

It doesn't seem to bother him. He doesn't blink a lot or show any signs of irritation.

I know they can:

  • Clean out the tear duct under sedation.
  • Install a shunt in the tear duct.
But everyone I've talked to so far keeps saying "don't worry about it".

It bugs the hell out of me :)

Dakota had "Booger Eye's", but never really stained like this. But he was allergic to everything, including allergies I think.

I tried some of those "eye cleaning cloths" at Petsmart, but the didn't even touch it.

There are also food suppliments, though I fail to see how they could possibly work.

I've also tried Rosemary Tea to rinse out the eye.

Anyone have a non-invasive cure for this? Anything that works really good to clean the stain in the fur?

Here is a close-up:

I had this problem with Erica when we first got her from the rescue. I took her to the vet to make sure nothing was wrong with her eye and everything was fine so he said to use a sterile saline solution (what you use for contact lens). I used it about 3 times a day in her eye and in about 1 wk. she started to clear and now she is fine.

Sometimes distichia can cause tearing like this, as can entropion (but his lower lid does not appear to be rolled in). If it is distichia, sometimes it goes away (if the extra lashes on the inside are soft) and sometimes the extra, inner lashes must be removed.

What does the vet say?

I was going to have him take a look on the next visit. I did pick up some saline solution, and I'm going to rinse with that as well.

When G-Man was 16 weeks old, it was noted and he mentioned the may have to flush the tear duct.
