A friend of mine has a mixed breed pup and she asked me about early spay. I've read lots on early neuter but is there anything on females? I told her my guess was that it'd be the same as males, better to wait for them to grow up, but if they were worried about the risk to go ahead...

I'm still on board with 6 mos, either just before, or after the first season. A bitch that is not going to be bred doesn't need to come in season.

In my contracts, it states the females to be spayed between 5-6 months, before their first heat cycle. With my boys, 18-24 months.

I have 3 female dogs, all who were spayed before 6 months and before their first heat. All are healthy.

I like around six months. Unfortunately we couldn't adopt Dory until she was spayed, so she was spayed around 10 weeks.

I had Bailey spayed already and she healed very quickly from it.
